Nowadays, websites with company reviews have become popular in Vietnam, becoming a place where users often refer to find information about the companies they want to apply for. Created to provide a more multi-dimensional view of the units, however, these websites are showing signs of being abused for different purposes.

Unlicensed social network company review website is being used to defame business information

According to the Vietnam Digital Content Creation Alliance (DCCA), the organization has received many complaints from members and businesses operating in Vietnam about false information posted on a number of company review websites. In a recent petition sent to the Vietnam Digital Communications Association (VDCA), DCCA recommended that the management agency handle a specific case, the website reviewcongty.me - a website that introduces itself as a place to "review salaries, evaluate the working environment, and company benefits".

DCCA said that this site operates as a social network but without a license, in which the domain name and server are registered through a foreign provider. However, the activities here as well as the language expressed are all aimed at Vietnamese people. Statistics from Similarweb show that in the last 3 months, each month the above address has had hundreds of thousands of visits, with 98% of IPs coming from Vietnam.

On the website, users can freely create a business name or account without having to register or go through authentication steps to post "reviews" about any company. Most of the comments here express frustration, badmouthing members, leaders or the company's regime.

DCCA representative assessed that most of the content on the website is negative, insulting individuals and businesses, "violating Vietnamese customs and cultural ethics".

"Information about businesses and individuals has not been verified and many posts contain fake news, insulting the honor, dignity, and reputation of companies and officers and employees. The site also does not censor users or censor content," DCCA emphasized. The unit also determined that the above actions show signs of violating many laws in Vietnam, directly causing damage to the reputation, honor, and material resources of Vietnamese businesses in general.

Therefore, DCCA has made a recommendation to the management unit to request the authorities to coordinate and take measures to handle the situation. On the afternoon of June 16, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information ( Ministry of Information and Communications ) said that the website that rated the company mentioned is an unlicensed social network in Vietnam. "The Department is coordinating with the relevant units to review and handle the feedback from DCCA," said a representative of the Department.
