Wes Brown is now settled down after a life-changing event. |
In the memories of fans, Wes Brown is a witness to the golden era at Old Trafford. He was part of Manchester United's golden generation in 1999 and provided the decisive assist for Cristiano Ronaldo's goal in the 2008 Champions League final. However, a brilliant career did not translate into a secure financial life after retirement.
In 2023, Brown publicly admitted to bankruptcy, despite having earned a salary of up to £50,000 per week during his playing career. According to the former England international, ill-advised investments and careless financial management led him into a spiral of debt. "It's been an incredibly difficult journey," Brown shared in an interview in November 2024.
At age 46, Brown admits his biggest mistake was not seeking professional advice sooner. "If I could go back, I would surround myself with people who were truly knowledgeable and willing to tell me the truth," he said.
However, the darkest chapter seems to be over. Currently, Brown is gradually stabilizing his life through his work as a commentator, while also participating in financial education programs for young players. Drawing on his own experiences, Brown helps the younger generation of players avoid the financial mistakes he once made.
His story isn't unique, as many former stars like John Barnes and Trevor Sinclair also struggled with bankruptcy. But for Brown, it was the starting point for a different life, one that was more grounded and sustainable.
Brown is currently happily in a relationship with 41-year-old Amy, a successful businesswoman in the cosmetics industry.
