Gia Thuan Commune: Converging potential, striving for development

After being established on the basis of merging 3 administrative units, Gia Thuan coastal commune (Dong Thap province) quickly promoted its natural advantages, marine economic potential and transport infrastructure to attract investment, develop industry - services, improve people's lives, aiming to become a dynamic, modern and sustainable locality.

CONVERGENCE OF POTENTIAL

According to Resolution 1663/NQ-UBTVQH15, in 2025, Gia Thuan coastal commune ( Dong Thap province) was established from the merger of 3 administrative units: Gia Thuan, Kieng Phuoc and Vam Lang town, with an area of 67.41 km², population of about 45,907 people.

The locality has 1 special national relic, 2 provincial relics; the economy is diversified, including industry, agriculture, aquaculture, and tourism. The traffic infrastructure is outstanding with the 6.5 km long Eastern industrial road, with a total investment of 182 billion VND, and the 1.16 km long connecting route from Vam Lang market to District Road 10, with a total investment of 49 billion VND.

With the potential advantage of the easternmost coastal commune of the province, in recent times, the commune has taken advantage of natural advantages and social resources to focus on building 2 industrial clusters. Gia Thuan 1 industrial cluster, completed technical infrastructure, has leased 27.45/40,336 hectares, reaching an occupancy rate of 68.05% and 41 companies/enterprises. Gia Thuan 2 industrial cluster is currently under construction and completing technical infrastructure and attracting investors (December 2025) and the Soai Rap - Nam Song Hau Petro Oil and Gas Depot Project.

In parallel with developing the industrial cluster, the commune also focuses on proposing to promote the planning of key projects such as: Construction of a new Vam Lang market; provincial road 873C connecting from Tan Dong intersection (old Tan Tay) to District Road 10, Gia Thuan commune, coastal road through the commune; Go Cong general seaport; embankment project to protect Bac Can Loc road.

Currently, Gia Thuan commune has 1 cooperative and 28 cooperative groups exploiting aquatic products, and has 575 means of exploitation and fishing. The exploitation output during the term reached 104,378 tons; aquaculture 233.5 hectares, output nearly 10,973 tons/year. Agriculture includes 1,604.9 hectares of rice, 113.28 hectares of vegetables, 165.5 hectares of dragon fruit, 87.03 hectares of other fruit trees. The locality has 2 cooperatives, 3 agricultural cooperative groups and 3 OCOP products including: Shrimp salt, dried shrimp, Green Garden eco-tourism recognized at the provincial level.

In addition, local tourism has been developing in association with the Temple of National Hero Truong Dinh, Kieng Phuoc Communal House Relic and Ong Nam Hai Tomb, and Green Garden Tourist Destination.

In the coming time, in the context of the domestic economy forecast to continue to maintain stable growth, Gia Thuan commune has many potentials and advantages to attract investment, promote economic development in the direction of strong shift from traditional agriculture to modern industry - services.

Exploiting seafood logistics services becomes an important economic sector of the locality; attracting investment and developing projects, industrial and commercial clusters, combined with embellishment, creating environmental landscapes associated with building advanced new rural areas.

The locality will focus on developing key projects such as: Soai Rap Petroleum Service Industrial Park, Gia Thuan 1 Industrial Cluster and Gia Thuan 2 Industrial Cluster; at the same time, the 9.5 km long coastal road passing through the area is a favorable condition for connecting inter-regional infrastructure and calling for investment in dynamic projects such as: Go Cong Wharf on Soai Rap River, Go Cong General Port, the General Petroleum and Liquefied Gas Depot Project of Nam Song Hau Petro Group (including the Condensate Plant with a capacity of 500,000 tons/year), along with functional areas such as: Commercial residential area, housing area, social housing, forming a synchronous industrial - service ecosystem along the coastal road; effectively implementing the Master Plan for socio-economic development to 2030, with a vision to 2045...

Gia Thuan commune creates conditions for early implementation of industrial projects, coordinates with the province to attract investment in Soai Rap Oil and Gas Service Industrial Park, Gia Thuan 1 and Gia Thuan 2 Industrial Clusters and develops the Nam Song Hau PETRO oil and gas depot...

In addition, the commune continues to synchronously implement solutions for agricultural and fishery development, promote the application of high technology to adapt to climate change; crop cutting, crop conversion, crop structure associated with restructuring the industry until 2030 towards added value and sustainability; apply scientific advances, invest in infrastructure to serve concentrated commodity production, high productivity, and increase farmers' income stably.

Along with that, Gia Thuan commune plans concentrated production areas, expands large-scale fields, develops specialized safe vegetables linked to consumption, increases value and efficiency. The locality increases livestock production, aquaculture and fisheries, prevents and combats epidemics, and forms livestock farming according to a value chain to ensure hygiene.
