'Greening' urban architecture

In recent years, green architecture has gradually become a popular trend in the design and construction of buildings. In some urban areas of Thai Nguyen province, green spaces are being expanded in both urban architecture and housing.

Green architecture, simply understood, is a construction approach that minimizes the harmful effects of construction projects on human health and the environment. Green architecture is not just about buildings with lots of greenery; it also encompasses architectural projects constructed from environmentally friendly materials, maximizing the use of natural light and airflow to minimize energy consumption. Green architecture is an architectural trend that creates living spaces with many amenities for people in a way that is less harmful to the environment, aiming to preserve the quality of life for both the present and the future.

Architect Nguyen Van Thang, TAC Architectural Consulting Joint Stock Company (Dong Quang Ward, Thai Nguyen City): Currently, more and more clients are choosing to build houses, buildings, and offices in a green architectural style. They request the addition of green spaces and "breathing areas" for the building. This not only helps balance the structure and enhance aesthetics but also helps to keep the building warm or cool, reducing electricity consumption because the building has sufficient light and air circulation.

Many homeowners also say that while adding greenery might be more work initially, it saves a lot on electricity costs in the long run. Indoor plants help regulate temperature, reducing reliance on air conditioners or heaters. Green spaces also make the home less stressful, create a relaxing atmosphere, and improve the quality of life for family members.

Beyond housing, buildings, and offices, authorities at all levels are now actively expanding green spaces in urban areas. In the three cities of Thai Nguyen, Song Cong, and Pho Yen, many parks, regulating lakes, and green spaces have been and are being invested in over the past years. Examples include: the green park and regulating lake in Pho Yen City; the park in Song Cong City; and the landscape development project behind Vo Nguyen Giap Square (Thai Nguyen City)...

Simultaneously, the province has conducted periodic reviews of planned green spaces, parks, and interspersed public land to effectively utilize them for the goal of developing urban green spaces. As a result, 66 public land areas have been reviewed, and 15 projects have been invested in to build green spaces, flower gardens, and sports facilities to serve the community. This is clear evidence of a positive shift in urban planning and development thinking towards sustainability, with a people-centered approach.

It can be said that the trend of "greening" architecture in Thai Nguyen not only reflects the increasing awareness of the people and the government regarding the living environment, but also opens up a new direction. That is, urban development does not mean concrete construction, but rather harmony with nature, with the health and future of the community.

Furthermore, although green architecture has received widespread acceptance, many believe that for it to be truly sustainable and impactful, close cooperation between the public, the government, and professionals is necessary. Accordingly, programs to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge about the benefits of green architecture need to be intensified, especially in new urban areas, resettlement zones, or industrial parks.
