During rush hour, 45-seat tourist buses stop to pick up passengers, occupying almost the entire street of Hanoi's Old Quarter, causing traffic jams and risk of accidents for people.
Recorded on February 15, 16, 35, and 45-seat tourist buses spread out throughout the Old Quarter in Hoan Kiem District to pick up tourists. In the photo on Hang Bong Street, 45-seat tourist buses stopped and parked further along the road, causing traffic jams during prohibited hours.
Vehicles mainly enter the city to pick up foreign tourists staying at hotels and motels in Hanoi's Old Quarter.
Tourist cars stopping, overtaking each other, and encroaching on the road on Hang Bong Street have left many motorbike riders in the opposite direction with no way to go.
The narrow roadway forces vehicles to jostle, enter drainage ditches, and honk continuously, causing noise pollution and potential risk of accidents.
Previously, on February 11, the Hanoi People's Committee issued a document approving the Department of Transport's proposal to pilot a ban on cars with more than 16 seats from operating on the streets of the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake during rush hours from March 1. The ban hours are 6:30-8:30 and 16:30-18:30.
On Gia Ngu street, where many hotels are located, there are also cases of 35- and 45-seat buses stopping and parking to pick up tourists, causing traffic jams for about 5-10 minutes.
According to the Department of Transport, banning cars with more than 16 seats from operating in the above areas will help reduce traffic congestion in the Old Quarter, especially during rush hour, improve the environment, reduce emissions, protect public health and maintain a cleaner living space.
On Luong Ngoc Quyen street, due to the small road and the intersection without traffic lights, a cyclist nearly collided with a 16-seat car picking up tourists.
Cau Go Street, where many hotels are located, often sees 16, 35, and 45-seat tourist buses stopping to pick up passengers, "swallowing up" the entire street.
Hang Voi - Hang Tre street is often congested with traffic for kilometers.
The reason is that the road is small, so 16, 35, and 45-seat tourist vehicles travel at high frequency.
On Tran Phu Street, a UAZ tourist vehicle parked on the street and a 45-seat vehicle moving right next to it made the path only wide enough for a motorbike, posing a potential risk of an accident.
Also this morning, in the area of the Cathedral, there were many 29-seat vehicles parked. Mr. Thanh (a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City) shared that the many 29-seat vehicles parked made the area in front of the Cathedral even more cramped and extremely offensive.
The image of a 16-seat tourist car stopping and picking up passengers on Nha Chung Street made it difficult for the Hanoi city tour service car to move.
