Veteran Truong Van Khoa is a shining example in the economic development movement in Thieu Toan commune.
CCB Nguyen The Huong, Hoang Son commune, started the story with us with nostalgia: “When I officially entered the military career, fighting on the battlefields against the invading American imperialists, I realized the cruelty of war and the sacrifices of my comrades. Being able to return to my family and my homeland, I felt that my fate was much luckier than many other comrades. Therefore, living and dedicating myself to repaying my comrades who had fallen for my country to rise up, I was not afraid of difficulties, not afraid of hardships, ready to volunteer on the new “front” - the “front” of economic development”.
Maintaining the spirit of Uncle Ho's soldier in peacetime, in 1992, veteran Nguyen The Huong started doing business. Over the past 33 years, although there were times when business was not favorable, Mr. Huong has never been discouraged or given up but has always been flexible, finding new directions for himself. From investing in agriculture to large-scale livestock farming, growing medicinal plants, and building recreational fishing lakes..., each year veteran Nguyen The Huong earns a profit of 400 - 500 million VND, with some years reaching 2 billion VND. For veteran Nguyen The Huong, rising out of poverty and becoming rich legitimately is not only a requirement of life but also the honor and quality of Uncle Ho's soldier. Therefore, as long as he has the strength, he will still work to build a prosperous life and contribute to the economic development of the locality.
“As a veteran, I think that learning and following Uncle Ho's example must be demonstrated through practical and concrete actions.” That is the thought of Mr. Truong Van Khoa, Thieu Toan commune. With the spirit of “dare to think, dare to do”, in 2014, veteran Truong Van Khoa boldly established an agricultural mechanization cooperative with himself as director. Starting to implement, Mr. Khoa invested 2.7 billion VND to buy harvesters, plows, transplanters, produce tray seedlings, sell fertilizers, rice seeds... to serve farmers. In the beginning, Mr. Khoa's business was very effective. A few years later, the number of machines serving agricultural production increased, Mr. Khoa quickly changed his business direction. Still clinging to his roots in agriculture, he contracted 5 hectares to implement a model of raising fish fry, fish for meat, fish - rice combined and raising ducks. As a pioneer in economic development, Mr. Khoa continued to learn from experience and decided to grow 2 hectares of lotus. From the efforts and hard-working, persistent hands, the comprehensive economic model of war veteran Truong Van Khoa has yielded sweet fruit with an annual income of 400 - 500 million VND.
For Thanh Hoa War Veterans Association cadres and members, the emulation movement "Deserving of the title of Uncle Ho's soldiers" has been carried out in many diverse forms. Notably, the movement "War Veterans help each other reduce poverty and do good business" has aroused comradeship, solidarity and the will to overcome difficulties and rise up in each person. Currently, the whole province has more than 700 small and medium enterprises, 230 cooperatives, nearly 1,500 farms, and more than 5,000 households owned by War Veterans Association members. Since then, the number of well-off and wealthy members in the province has increased to 60.14%. The movement to follow Uncle Ho's example of practicing thrift has also been widely deployed. Every year, each War Veterans Association cadre and member will save 24,000 VND to contribute to the fund to build "Comradeship" houses for poor members. From this fund, in the past 5 years (2019-2024), Thanh Hoa Veterans Association has renovated and repaired 486 houses, with a total support of more than 23 billion VND and helped nearly 30,000 working days from members. This is a very exciting number, not only proving that the old comradeship and team spirit still lives on with time but also brings the warmth of caring and sharing with full responsibility.
In particular, implementing Uncle Ho's teaching that "cultivating the revolutionary generation for the next generation is a very important and necessary task", the Veterans Association has coordinated with the Youth Union to implement the joint program "Strengthening the cultivation of revolutionary ideals, accompanying young people to establish their careers, and actively build and defend the Fatherland". In 5 years, the whole province has organized 1,522 traditional talks with 288,145 union members, youth and students participating. As a person who directly fought and devoted his youth to the war, Veteran Luong Sy Vui, Nam Sam Son ward, understands his responsibility and affection for the country even more clearly. Therefore, over the past 17 years, he has tirelessly "fueled" the tradition for many generations, so that the golden pages of the nation's history always shine and so that the responsibility of the young generation towards the country is increasingly promoted.
When the country called, the soldiers eagerly rushed to the fierce front lines, always upholding the determination to "go to the battlefield without regretting their youth". Luckily returning alive, those war veterans still did not stop trying, striving, and continuing to contribute to building their homeland. That is a beautiful story written from the bravery, will, and determination of each cadre and member of the War Veterans Association of the heroic Thanh Hoa homeland.
