There have been multiple attacks on the Gaza Strip and tensions in the Red Sea show no signs of abating. The US and UK navies have shot down 21 drones and missiles fired by Houthi forces in Yemen towards the southern Red Sea.
Separately, in the Middle East, Iran seized an Iraqi crude oil tanker bound for Türkiye in retaliation for the US seizure of the same ship and Iranian oil last year.
The United States and Britain said they would take new measures if Houthi attacks continued, Reuters reported. The United Nations Security Council has also passed a resolution demanding an end to Houthi attacks.
In addition, oil prices increased due to the weakening of the US dollar. A weaker US dollar makes oil cheaper for buyers holding other currencies.
However, the US housing market is gradually recovering, which is likely to cause US home prices to rise again and put pressure on inflation.
Rising inflation could push back the timing of when the Federal Reserve will start cutting interest rates. Higher interest rates over a longer period of time would weigh on the economy and curb oil demand, which would weigh on oil prices.
