V-League referees practice VAR on the morning of June 8
18 referees, FIFA assistant referees, members of the VFF Referee Board and instructor Ali Ahmed entered the training sessions as planned.
In this third training session, referees and assistant referees practice on the VAR car throughout the entire training period with 3 steps with increasing levels of difficulty.
Specifically: step 1, training for 2 days with two teams competing on the field to practice short simulation situations of 10 minutes; step 2, training for 6 days with two teams competing on the field to practice 30-minute simulation situations; step 3, training for 3 days with two teams competing for a full 90 minutes.
In this training step, coordination between the main referee, VAR referee and technician is carried out on the VAR car under the supervision and guidance of FIFA experts.
Two VAR vehicles deployed by VPF Company with sponsorship from Hoanh Son Group were completed and put into operation at this training session.
The VAR vehicles deployed by VPF with all equipment of the VAR system are imported under the supervision of quality and technical standards of FIFA.
In parallel with training and testing referee expertise on VAR vehicles, during this training session, FIFA technical experts will also evaluate the techniques and standards for two VAR vehicles.
Communication systems will also have to undergo inspection and licensing from domestic authorities before being approved for use.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc, General Director of VPF Company shared: “The VAR project has gone through a long period of preparation and implementation.
Up to now, the technical and material preparations for the implementation of VAR have been completed by VPF Company and its partners.
This third training course for referees is particularly important, deciding the time to deploy VAR in Vietnam.
With careful attention and preparation in terms of logistics, VPF Company hopes that the 18 referees and assistants attending this first VAR training course will pass FIFA's testing and evaluation steps so that the VAR application plan will soon be included in national professional football tournaments in the near future."
VAR (short for Video Assistant Referee) is a form of applying advanced technology to support referees through video .
VAR is used in football to help referees make the most accurate decisions through recorded video tapes.
VAR is only used in the event of a “clear error” or “serious missed incident” relating to:
-Goal/no goal
-Penalty/no penalty
-Direct red card (not second yellow card/second warning)
- Misidentifying the offending player (in case the referee warns/yellow cards or sends off the player)
