150 billion VND to build embankments to prevent landslides in two dangerous areas in Ho Chi Minh City

VnExpressVnExpress26/08/2023

The Department of Transport proposed building embankments to prevent landslides on two riverbanks in Thu Duc City and Nha Be District, with a total length of more than 500 m and a cost of 150 billion VND.

The above plan has just been sent by the Department of Transport to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to ensure safety for households and organizations living along the shore. The two locations where the embankment is planned to be built are both experiencing dangerous levels of erosion in the area.

Of which, there is about 400 m on the left bank of Rach Giong - Kinh Lo River, in Hiep Phuoc Commune, Nha Be District. This area is currently home to 22 households. The remaining location is on the Dong Nai River, next to the Cat Lai Waterway Police Station, in Thanh My Loi Ward, Thu Duc City. This section is about 145 m long, the riverbank is being eroded, with many cracks appearing, directly affecting the police station headquarters.

The Department of Transport calculated that in the total cost of building embankments to prevent landslides in the two areas above, site clearance accounts for more than 26 billion VND, construction and installation accounts for about 90 billion VND; the rest is management and contingency costs... The project implementation period is from now until 2025.

Recently, in Ho Chi Minh City, there have been many landslides affecting many households and organizations. In June, a 120-meter embankment on Thanh Da peninsula, Binh Thanh district, collapsed, causing many houses to crack, forcing the city to urgently evacuate 15 households. In District 12, in early August, a landslide along the Saigon River, about 40 meters long, more than 20 meters deep into the bank, also occurred.

Statistics in Ho Chi Minh City show that there are currently 32 landslide-prone locations, affecting about 1,328 households. The most is Thu Duc City with 8 locations. Next are Nha Be and Can Gio, each district has 7 locations. Binh Chanh District and Binh Thanh District, each locality has 4 locations...
