Today, March 31, 2020, marks the 20th anniversary of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted (20 years of Tran Chuyen), Ho Chi Minh City, a school that has nurtured many talented young people for the country. On this occasion, former students of the school shared many touching memories.
The story of outstanding young face Le Dinh Hieu
More than 15 years ago, Mr. Le Dinh Hieu, CEO of GAP Institute, one of the 10 outstanding young faces nationwide in 2018, left Tran Dai Nghia High School to pursue his dream of studying abroad, and never thought that one day he would return to school with an extremely interesting role: the first President of the Tran Dai Nghia Alumni Association. Even more special, the first year of the Association's establishment was also the 20th anniversary of Tran Chuyen.
Mr. Hieu shared with reporters special memories of the school he once attended: "Today, I have become an entrepreneur, graduated from business schools such as Stanford or University of Pennsylvania, and held director and leadership positions at large corporations in Vietnam and
the world ; but there is one story I have never told: my first business 'experience' began at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted."
The 12th grade fair that Le Dinh Hieu still remembers |
"15 years ago, when the iPhone had not yet been invented, smartphones were still a strange concept, I discovered that although the school's art programs were very attractive, they were lost after one performance, so many beautiful moments only happened once. Therefore, I decided to take my father's camera and record the art performances on November 20th or March 26th. At the year-end fair, when all the booths focused on selling food, souvenirs, key chains, and class shirts, I was the only booth selling 'technology products': a DVD that recorded all the school's art performances throughout that school year. 100 DVDs were sold out within 1 hour. My greatest value from this memory was not how much money I earned, but the feeling of joy when helping hundreds of other friends in the school preserve beautiful memories...", Mr. Le Dinh Hieu said.

You have to be like a tree…
The story of Ms. Ho Khue Anh, 23 years old, currently studying abroad at New York University, USA, is full of emotion. From America, Ms. Ho Khue Anh remembers her "second home" - Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City, with fragrant frangipani flowers and clusters of balloons flying into the sky during the coming-of-age ceremony: "20 years at Tran Chuyen. Of which, 7 years belonged to me."
"Tran Chuyen is my second home, because this is where I grew up, because there are memories that make people excited, making us not want to grow up. I still remember the year we organized a birthday party for our literature teacher. She said it was the first time her students organized a birthday party for her. I remember what Ms. Tuyet and Mr. Hung said, 'You must be like a tree; you must have deep roots to be able to reach out to the five continents', 'when at school we learn and then we are tested, but in real life, we are often tested and then we learn'", Khue Anh said.

Proud to be a student of Tran Dai Nghia High School

“My mind now recalls images of classes 10A7, 11A7, 12A7; images of teachers; images of me acting out an English play in class; images of my two best friends; images of me stepping onto the stage to perform on November 20; images of teachers and supervisors walking in the hallway. Those pure, innocent images seem to cool and soothe my soul, which is filled with worries and sorrows from daily work. Thank you Tran Dai Nghia Specialized School for giving me beautiful memories to remember, the school that helps me "learn to know, learn to do, learn to live together". I am always proud to be a student of Tran Chuyen School", Mr. Nguyen Hoang shared.
20 years of Tran Chuyen, sweet candies
Nguyen Giang, 19 years old, broke up with Tran Chuyen 2 years ago, she is currently a second year student majoring in nutritional
science at McGill University, Canada. On Tran Chuyen's 20th anniversary, Giang shared her nostalgic feelings: "The 5 years with Tran Chuyen is not too long, but it is enough to leave regrets. Tran Chuyen gave me sweet 'candy', but also sometimes bitter. Today, Tran Chuyen is 20 years old, I want to say that Tran Chuyen is still a place to come and go, a house full of memories of youth".

18 springs with Tran Chuyen Today is the 20th anniversary of Tran Chuyen, and also the time when teacher Nguyen Pham Thuy Trang, an English teacher, enters her 18th year of teaching at this school. There have been many joys and sorrows, Ms. Thuy Trang shared that she cannot forget the times when teachers practiced singing and dancing for the female cadres competition organized by the education union. But on days when teachers were exhausted after 5 morning classes, they quickly ate their lunch boxes, and practiced so as not to affect their afternoon classes. The art troupe of teachers like Ms. Trang was encouraged and supported by Tran Chuyen students. |
There was a time when the teachers had to wear high heels and practice “catwalking” to participate in a fashion contest, and after class, they rubbed oil on each other’s feet; or after the afternoon class, they practiced until late at night. Then the joy exploded when we won the first prize in the city’s education sector, then the first prize in the whole city. We will always remember the enthusiastic cheers of our beloved Tran Chuyen students when they re-enacted the contest performances right in their school yard, that was the greatest encouragement…”. 20 years at Tran Chuyen, 30 years and longer, the beautiful and bright memories under this school roof are still being recorded by many generations of students and teachers. |
