Morning walks help reduce stress, improve cardiovascular health, speed up metabolism and many other benefits. Some habits that many people accidentally have in the morning will reduce the effectiveness of walking, even leading to discomfort or injury, according to the health website Verywellfit (USA).

Things people should avoid before starting their morning walk include:

Not drinking enough water

Drinking water first thing in the morning is especially important for your health. This is because after 6–8 hours of sleep, your body is naturally dehydrated. Dehydration in the morning can lead to dizziness, headaches, muscle cramps, and reduced walking endurance.

The Mayo Clinic, a non-profit medical organization in the US, says that even mild dehydration can make walkers feel exhausted and tired. Dehydration makes the heart work harder to pump blood and the body has difficulty regulating body temperature. Therefore, people should drink 300-500 ml of water after waking up, about 15-30 minutes before walking.

Walk on an empty stomach

Some people choose to exercise on an empty stomach to burn more fat. However, walking without eating anything at all can be harmful, especially for people who are prone to dizziness or weakness. Because after a long night's sleep, blood sugar levels will drop. If you walk on an empty stomach, you will easily get dizzy, especially when walking at a fast pace or walking long distances.

Nutritionists recommend eating an easily digestible snack before a morning walk, such as a banana, a slice of bread with butter or some whole grain cereal.

No start

Warming up is an often overlooked step before walking. Even though walking is a low-impact activity, starting without a warm-up puts stress on your joints, especially your knees, hips, and ankles. Warming up properly increases blood flow to your muscles, loosens your joints, prepares your heart and lungs for exercise, and helps prevent injury.

Drink coffee before walking

Coffee is an essential morning beverage for many people. However, drinking coffee right before going for a walk can be counterproductive.

Caffeine is a stimulant that increases heart rate, can irritate the stomach, and has a mild diuretic effect. This can make exercisers urinate more often, and can cause digestive upset or acid reflux while walking, according to Verywellfit .
