The Tan Son Nhat area connecting road, the southern gateway tunnel and many bridges will be completed next year to help reduce congestion and open up the city's main arteries.
The information was given by Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (TCIP) at the launching ceremony to accelerate the progress of key traffic projects in the area on December 29.
The projects expected to be completed in 2024 all use state budget capital and have been implemented for many years. The largest of these is the project to build a road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa at the gateway to Tan Son Nhat, with a capital of more than 4,800 billion VND. This project started a year ago, aiming to form a new route longer than 4 km, connecting T3 station of the airport. The project includes a main route 25-48 m wide, along with two branches connecting the station, an overpass, and two underpasses.

According to Mr. Phuc, the construction packages of the above project will be implemented simultaneously from the beginning of next year, after some items have been deployed this year. Accordingly, package No. 9 - the underpass near Lang Cha Ca intersection is the item that will be completed first at the end of July 2024. The entire project is expected to be put into operation at the end of the year. When completed, in addition to connecting to T3 station, the route will open another approach to the airport, breaking the monopoly of Truong Son road.
At the southern gateway, the project to build an underpass at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection in District 7 is also targeted by TCIP to be completed in 2024. This project started more than 3 years ago, with the first phase costing a total of VND830 billion with two tunnels in each direction of Nguyen Van Linh Street, each tunnel is 456 m long and has three lanes. Above, the project will build a roundabout with connecting branches.
After a long period of encountering difficulties related to the relocation of technical infrastructure (electricity, water, etc.), the investor said that the project is currently being focused on construction. In particular, one tunnel branch will be opened to traffic in the middle of next year, and the remaining branch will be completed 6 months later to help reduce congestion at the southern gateway.

In addition to the two projects above, there are 38 large projects and packages that will also be completed next year. Among them are a series of important bridges such as Nam Ly (Thu Duc City); Rach Dia, Phuoc Long (connecting District 7 to Nha Be), Ba Hom Bridge (Binh Tan District). Many projects to expand Tan Ky Tan Quy, Ten Lua, Duong Quang Ham roads... will also be put into operation this year to help reduce congestion at the city's gateways.
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong requested investors and contractors to speed up construction from the beginning of 2024, especially working through Tet to create a breakthrough in progress. In particular, units need to make efforts to complete two major projects: the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road and the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection underpass, to reduce pressure on these two gateways.
