Throughout the years of resistance, Ca Mau, along with the people of the South and the entire nation, bravely fought and achieved many resounding victories. Ca Mau became a solid base for the revolution in the South, a base of operations for many high-ranking leaders of the Party and State. Overcoming countless difficulties and losses, the people of Ca Mau contributed greatly in terms of manpower and resources to the revolution: more than 17,000 soldiers sacrificed their lives; more than 16,000 wounded soldiers left a part of their bodies on the battlefield; more than 2,500 heroic Vietnamese mothers bid farewell to their loved ones; and tens of thousands of families rendered meritorious service to the nation.
