The word "Taxi" is said to have its roots in the ancient Greek word "Taxis", meaning arrangement, order.
The word later passed into Latin and then French as "Taxe", meaning tax or fee.

By the end of the 19th century, the term "Taxameter" appeared in Germany - a device for calculating fares based on distance and time, used in passenger vehicles.
The word "Taxameter" was later shortened to "Taxi" and quickly spread to English and many other languages, as the fare-based vehicle became popular.
The word taxi first appeared in Vietnam in 1934. Specifically, in Nam Phong magazine, issue 205, 1934, page 129, there was a paragraph that said: “There were just starting to be passenger cars (taxis) running all over Hanoi . Taxis are a type of car that transports passengers for hire on all the streets of Hanoi. On the morning of October 8, Thuan Thai, Hang Buom street, welcomed the Hanoi Governor here so that six cars could start running.”
Today, "Taxi" is widely used around the world , referring to public transport that transports passengers, operating on demand.
