This is the first time in World Cup history that tickets to matches are being given away for free to fans. Announcing the program, the Saudi Arabian Embassy in the US stated that Saudi Arabia will be giving away free tickets to national team supporters currently in the US. They wished the national team success and hoped they would represent the Kingdom with pride and determination. The Saudi Arabian team is currently ranked 61st in the world and is not considered a strong contender to advance beyond the group stage. However, the free ticket giveaway is expected to encourage fans to make the approximately 13-hour flight from the Middle East to the US to support their team.
