The Egyptian government has made efforts to boost the tourism industry, including developing tourism infrastructure and airports across the country, along with improving the quality of hotel services and launching creative advertising campaigns to attract more prospective markets to Egypt.

The Egyptian government also promotes tourism diversification including cultural tourism, marine tourism and medical tourism, thereby increasing the length of stay and average spending per tourist.

Tourism is one of Egypt's main sources of foreign exchange. The Egyptian government has also launched a national strategy to develop the sector, with the goal of attracting 30 million tourists by 2028.

In July 2024, Egypt launched a more than $1 billion initiative to support the tourism sector, with the construction and operation of new hotel rooms.

In 2024, Egypt will welcome 15.7 million tourists, generating revenue of $14.1 billion, surpassing the previous record of 14.9 million tourists in 2023.
