The crisp sound of firecrackers, the bustling spring music, the rich flavors of the Tet feast and especially the sincere affection of the community and the Embassy members help people far from home feel warm during the Tet holiday.
On the evening of February 3, in the atmosphere of the approaching Lunar New Year, the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka organized the Homeland Spring 2024 program. The event took place on the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2024), coinciding with the 76th anniversary of Sri Lanka's National Day (February 4, 1948 - February 4, 2024), making the meeting with the Vietnamese community in the island nation even more meaningful and filled with laughter.
The event was attended by all members of the Embassy and a large number of Vietnamese people living, studying and working in Sri Lanka. Although the number of the community in Sri Lanka is still modest and it is difficult to travel due to living in many different remote locations, everyone came back to contribute to decorating the embassy's common house and preparing Tet dishes with traditional national dishes; together saying goodbye to the old year of Quy Mao and welcoming the new spring of Giap Thin.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ho Thi Thanh Truc informed the community about the world situation, political , economic and social situation as well as outstanding results in the country's foreign affairs and integration work in 2023.
The Ambassador emphasized that the proud achievements Vietnam has made in the past year, in addition to the efforts of the entire political system and nearly 100 million Vietnamese people, also had the joint efforts of more than 6 million overseas Vietnamese, including the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka.
He said that last year, the situation in Sri Lanka was more stable, the Embassy organized many practical activities in all fields of political, economic and cultural diplomacy ; on all channels of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy and received attention and recognition from the leaders of the two governments.
These activities help people of the two countries know more about each other, creating a foundation for closer people-to-people exchanges, contributing to promoting the continued development of Vietnam-Sri Lanka relations.
Such encouraging results have been achieved thanks to the active contributions of the community. The Ambassador thanks and appreciates the support and companionship of the community, with the core being the Liaison Committee, to the Embassy over the past time.
Ambassador Ho Thi Thanh Truc affirmed that community work is always the core and priority task of the Embassy and wished the entire community good health in the new year, increasing solidarity and strong development.
Ms. Nguyen Mai Trinh, Head of the Community Liaison Committee, representing the Vietnamese Community living, studying and working in Sri Lanka, sent her sincere thanks to the Embassy for having held many political and cultural exchange activities in the past year to promote and develop the friendship between the two countries; supporting, connecting and accompanying the Community in many activities in the host country.
Venerable Phap Quang, abbot of Truc Lam Zen Monastery in Kandy (180km from Colombo), happily said that the Embassy is a warm Vietnamese home in the island nation of Sri Lanka. Although the number of embassy staff is small, they always devote much love and enthusiasm to community work.
The monks, nuns, priests, and community members attending Xuan Que Huong also expressed their gratitude and thanks to the embassy members for devoting much effort to organizing the meaningful Xuan Que Huong program with a warm atmosphere imbued with national identity so that children far from their homeland could have the opportunity to meet and celebrate Tet together, partly filling the homesickness.
This is also an opportunity for the second generation in Sri Lanka to experience and learn more about the beautiful culture of the traditional Vietnamese New Year.
“Homeland Spring - Reunion Tet 2024” takes place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, contributing to connecting the community as well as helping to preserve and spread Vietnamese cultural traditions in the island nation./.
