Amorim was right about Onana.

Coach Ruben Amorim believes Andre Onana's departure will clear up any lingering problems and finally give him the dressing room atmosphere he desires.

Andre Onana is set to leave Manchester United.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper has officially moved to Trabzonspor on loan, ending a turbulent time at Old Trafford. He has become the latest name to join the "Bomb Squad" - a group of players who were dropped from coach Ruben Amorim's plans this past summer.

Previously, Amorim pushed Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony out in turn. Left-back Tyrell Malacia is also on his way to Türkiye, with the destination believed to be Eyupspor.

The relationship between Onana and Amorim is said to have fallen into a state of irreparable decline. The Portuguese coach considered the number one goalkeeper’s hamstring injury during the training period to be the “last straw”, especially when he knew that Onana had risked playing on muddy pitches in his homeland before returning to England.

Since then, Onana has been steadily losing his place. He was left out of the squad for the defeat to Arsenal, the draw with Fulham, and then made consecutive mistakes in the humiliating defeat to Grimsby in the League Cup.

Even in the victory over Burnley, the former Inter Milan star was only on the bench. On the last day of the transfer window, MU quickly spent 18.2 million pounds to recruit Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens - a move that showed that Onana no longer had a future at the club.

Within United, many believe the 29-year-old goalkeeper lacks commitment and team spirit. He was even accused of “not looking at the coach” during a training session, shortly after being heavily criticised for his poor performance in the defeat to Cape Verde - a result that almost ended Cameroon’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

A source from the club admitted: "It feels like Onana is just there to make up the numbers, but no longer has the spirit to contribute."

For Amorim, Onana's departure is a necessary "cleanse". He is ready to hand over the goal to Lammens, Altay Bayindir - who is still struggling to find form - and veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The departure of a series of stars such as Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund (on loan to Napoli) certainly negatively affects MU's financial situation, especially in the financial fair play (PSR) issue. But for Amorim, team cohesion is the top priority.

He insists the current squad has enough dedication, with the six dressing room leaders – Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez, Diogo Dalot, Tom Heaton and Noussair Mazraoui – acting as “beacon” to maintain discipline and consensus.

Ahead of the Manchester derby this weekend, Amorim faces a difficult choice: put his trust in new signing Lammens or give Bayindir another chance. On the other side of the front line, Man City is also expected to give the starting position to new signing Gianluigi Donnarumma.

If Malacia completes his loan move to Eyupspor, the Portuguese coach will have completed his "comprehensive cleansing" at Old Trafford in just one summer.
