India's Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has just released its agricultural output forecast for 2026, showing impressive growth figures. Accordingly, the country expects wheat and rapeseed production to reach record highs, significantly contributing to food security and stabilizing the supply of vegetable oil.

Wheat production is expected to reach 120.21 million tons.

Based on the latest statistical reports, India's wheat production in 2026 is estimated at approximately 120.21 million tons. This is a record high, marking a significant increase compared to the data recorded in 2025. The increase in production is mainly due to a breakthrough in the winter crop – the country's main wheat production season.

Wheat production in India is projected to reach a record high in 2026.

Besides wheat, rapeseed and mustard production is also projected to set new records at around 13.33 million tonnes. The synchronized increase across these strategic crop groups demonstrates that India's agricultural production potential is being effectively exploited amidst sustained high market demand.

Factors driving agricultural growth

According to an analysis from the Indian Ministry of Agriculture, this positive result was achieved thanks to a combination of favorable factors:

  • Favorable weather conditions: Abundant rainfall from the monsoon season created ideal soil moisture conditions, maximizing support for crop growth.
  • Expanded cultivated area: Taking advantage of favorable natural conditions and stable agricultural product prices, farmers have proactively expanded the scale of their cultivation compared to previous years.
  • Stable consumption demand: The domestic market and the demand for raw materials for the vegetable oil industry are major drivers encouraging farmers to increase production.

Impact on the domestic food market

Achieving record yields for two essential agricultural products not only helps India bolster its national food reserves but also reduces pressure on vegetable oil imports. This abundant supply is expected to help stabilize domestic food prices, creating favorable conditions for the economy in 2026.

Agricultural experts believe that if weather conditions remain stable until the final harvest, India can fully realize its production targets, affirming its position as one of the leading agricultural powers in the region.
