This is not a natural disaster, but rather the season of business and festivities for the people of the Mekong Delta – where the boundaries between land and water are blurred to create a unique "symphony" of life.

Where the boundary between land and water is blurred.

In An Giang province, there is a son born and raised in Chau Doc who, despite being busy with his work as a doctor in the Diagnostic Imaging Department of An Giang General Hospital, still dedicates a great love to photography. That is photographer Huynh Phuc Hau. With passion and a profound perspective, he has quietly captured the soul of his homeland, bringing the simple beauty of An Giang to the whole country.

More than just a photographer, he's also a "liaison," an inspiration for the photography community nationwide. There's a funny story in the community: every time the flood season approaches, people call Mr. Hau to "inquire about the water level." After years of only hearing the answer, "The water's rising, but not beautifully," this year he enthusiastically announced, "The water is rising beautifully this year, everyone is so excited, come here!", and then he wholeheartedly leads his fellow photographers to the most beautiful spots in An Giang. Through the lens and heart of people like him, the return of the flood season becomes even more precious, appearing like an immortal love song.

A magnificent natural landscape

The flood season in An Giang is a giant ink painting, with each moment of the day possessing its own unique beauty. There's the magical sunrise over the vast flooded fields. Many tourists and photographers flock to the palm groves, brewing a hot cup of coffee and quietly watching the sunrise to experience a refreshing and unique feeling. Or there's the "dance" of the sunset descending over the Tha La fields, painting magnificent colors on the water's surface. The floodwaters carry fertile silt, enriching the land and infusing everything with vibrant life. The deep green mangrove forests stand like oases amidst the sea of water, and flocks of white egrets soaring create a breathtakingly peaceful scene.

A life in harmony with the flowing water.

The flood season is also when the rhythm of life in An Giang becomes more vibrant and distinctive than ever. Their lives are intertwined with the water, both a challenge and a gift from nature. The image of farmers paddling boats to pick bright yellow water hyacinths, gathering bundles of pristine white water lilies, or casting nets to catch early-season fish has become a symbol of their diligence and remarkable adaptability.

Through the lenses of photographers who love this land, the beauty of the working people is revealed authentically and emotionally. It's the benevolent smiles, the eyes shining with optimistic joy at living in harmony with nature – a simple beauty that touches the heart.

A gift from the Mekong River

The river not only brings fertile silt but also generously bestows abundant produce upon the people. Fish, water lilies, water chives, water spinach, wild jasmine flowers... from these humble ingredients, the locals have created flavorful specialties typical of the Mekong Delta. Enjoying a steaming pot of fish and wild jasmine flower hotpot amidst the vast expanse of the river is an experience that anyone would find hard to forget.

A touch of nostalgia

In recent years, due to the impact of climate change and upstream construction projects on the Mekong River, the major flood seasons are becoming less frequent, bringing a touch of regret to those who cherish the beauty of the Mekong Delta. Photographer Huynh Phuc Hau reminisces that, for him, the flood season is a part of life. In the 2000s, floods would inundate entire fields and often wouldn't recede until the end of November, creating a vibrant and bustling scene. Memories of those bountiful flood seasons make each flood season, especially this year's return, even more precious.

The flood season is not only a time for earning a living but also an opportunity for people to return to the Mekong Delta, admire and capture the beautiful moments of a generous land, where people and nature together create an immortal love song.
