An Giang: Tightening pharmaceutical management to prevent drug shortages.

On the morning of May 27th, Tran Quang Hien, Director of the An Giang Department of Health, chaired a conference to summarize and evaluate the results of the 2025 inspection of pharmaceutical and cosmetic work.

At the conference, the Director of the An Giang Department of Health, Tran Quang Hien, informed that the province had successfully bid for a centralized drug procurement package worth over 4.118 billion VND, contributing to ensuring the supply of medicines for medical examination and treatment for the people, especially patients with health insurance.

The Department of Health requires heads of pharmacy departments in hospitals to provide sound advice to the Board of Directors; tighten management according to the "6 clear principles," balance expenditures, and absolutely prevent any shortage of medicines for medical examination and treatment.

In 2025, the Department of Health conducted a review of the management of drug supply and use at medical facilities in the province. The results showed that pharmaceutical work continued to be stable; 201 out of 276 criteria achieved level 3 or higher, accounting for 72.8%, and 19 facilities achieved level 3 in all 6 criteria.

Some units showing significant improvement in quality include the following hospitals: Cardiology, Ophthalmology - Otolaryngology - Dentistry, General Traditional Medicine - Rehabilitation, An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, and Thoai Son Regional Health Center.

Regarding the shortcomings and deficiencies identified during the inspection, the Department of Health requests that healthcare facilities seriously review and promptly address them.
