2023 can be considered a successful year for sports in Hai Phong City. The mass sports movement continued to be promoted and spread throughout the lives of the people.

High-performance sports reap abundant rewards.
Athletes from Hai Phong participated in 135 sports competitions (including 108 domestic competitions, 25 international competitions, 1 SEA Games 32 competition, and 1 ASIAD 19 competition), winning 535 medals of all kinds, including 163 gold medals, 157 silver medals, and 213 bronze medals. Notably, at the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD), Hai Phong sports had the honor of having 3 athletes competing in 2 events of the sports: shooting and rowing. Athlete Pham Quang Huy in shooting achieved outstanding results with a gold medal in the men's 10m air pistol individual event and a bronze medal in the men's 10m air pistol team event. This is the first gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 19th Asian Games. Hai Phong also sent 66 coaches and athletes to participate in the national team and the national youth team.
In 2023, Hai Phong continued to be a successful destination for major tournaments, hosting national and international events including: the Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Vietnam Sea and Island Folk Culture Festival and the Do Son - Hai Phong Sea and Island Festival; the Northern Golf Championship; the 9th National Lion Dance Championship; the National and Junior Beach Volleyball Championships; the National Golf Championship; the National Air Gun Championship; the National Junior Kickboxing Championship; the National Rowing and Canoeing Championships...
In addition, Hai Phong also organized 70 other sports events and activities such as physical education and sports activities celebrating the Party and the Lunar New Year; the Olympic Run for Public Health; the Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament on Vietnam Sports Day; the Swimming Tournament for teenagers and children and the Lifesaving Swimming Tournament to prevent accidents and injuries to children; the Senior Citizens' Volleyball Tournament; the Football Championship for clubs; the VnExpress Marathon Hai Phong; and the survey and demonstration flight of motorized paragliding with the theme "Flying over the coastal region"... all of which were very successful.
According to Ms. Pham Thi To Trang, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture and Sports, in 2023, the culture and sports sector advised on the issuance of resolutions by the City People's Council, such as: Regulations on special nutritional regimes for coaches and athletes during training camps and competitions; Regulations on reward levels for coaches and athletes achieving success at national sports competitions. They also advised on the development of a Resolution of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee on the development of physical education and sports in Hai Phong City until 2030, with a vision to 2045, in line with the requirements of physical education and sports development in the new situation.

2024 is considered a pivotal year for high-performance sports in Hai Phong , with participation in major tournaments such as the National Sports Games, the SEA Games, and other international competitions.
Accordingly, Hai Phong's high-performance sports sector is tasked with participating in 100 domestic and international competitions and winning 370-375 medals of all kinds. In addition, the Hai Phong Sports Training and Competition Center will mobilize social resources to participate in or increase the number of athletes in some domestic and international competitions.
Sharing about the preparation process for the 2024 competition plan, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Nghia, Director of the Center, said: “We focus on checking the physical fitness of all athletes, working with various sports to develop competition and training plans, and hiring foreign experts to strengthen the city's high-performance sports when participating in domestic and international competitions. We are promoting emulation campaigns, providing timely rewards, proposing maintenance and renovation of facilities serving training and competition, and improving the effectiveness of sports medicine to enhance the performance of athletes and coaches.”
In the early days of 2024, Hai Phong's high-performance sports received good news when shooters Quang Huy and Trinh Thi Vinh won the gold medal in the 10m mixed air pistol team event at the 2024 Asian Shooting Championships in Indonesia. In addition, Hai Phong's high-performance sports sector has been strengthened with the addition of talented athletes in various disciplines. This is a valuable resource, helping the city's sports sector proactively develop its strategy and build a sustainable training and competition system.
In 2024, with additional resources, mechanisms, and policies, combined with the confidence gained from the previous year's good performance, the high-performance sports sector of the port city will proactively build a solid foundation in terms of personnel, create breakthroughs in achievements, and aim for higher goals in domestic and international competitions, bringing glory to Hai Phong in the future.
