Creating livelihoods to lift people out of poverty.

Mr. Pham Van Hanh, from Dak Song district, said that in recent years, various levels of government and agencies in the province and district have integrated different funding sources to upgrade transportation infrastructure, schools, and village halls.

Currently, the most noticeable change is that many roads connecting Dak Kual 5 village with the centers of Dak N'Drung and Nam N'Jang communes have been paved with asphalt or concrete, making travel easier for the people.

"Since the roads have improved, transporting fertilizers, agricultural products, etc., has become more efficient, and people's lives are much better than before," Hanh happily stated.

A few years ago, the family of Mr. Dieu Tai, in Tuy Duc district, received a breeding cow from the Tuy Duc Border Guard Station (Dak Nong Provincial Border Guard).

According to Mr. Tài, on the day they received the cow, his family signed a commitment with the Tuy Đức Border Guard Station and the People's Committee of Đắk Búk So commune stating that they were not allowed to slaughter or sell it.

After more than three years of care, this breeding cow has given birth to two calves and is preparing to have another litter. Since the cow started breeding, Mr. Tài's family has improved their living standards. "The breeding and expansion of the herd will help my family confidently escape poverty," said Mr. Điểu Tài.

Previously, the family of Mr. Y Ghe, in Krông Nô district, always faced economic difficulties due to a lack of capital and arable land. Income from rice and corn crops was meager, so the family often suffered from food shortages during the lean season.

However, in recent years, thanks to government support programs, Mr. Y Ghe's family's life has gradually stabilized and they have escaped poverty.

“My family’s life has become more stable now. We received support with housing, land for production, and technical training. As a result, the efficiency of farming has improved, and our lives are more stable,” said Mr. Y Ghe.

Effectiveness in poverty reduction efforts

According to the Resolution of the 12th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020-2025, Dak Nong province sets the goal of reducing overall poverty by 2% per year; and reducing poverty among ethnic minorities in their locality by 4% per year.

However, in 2021 and 2022, the Provincial People's Committee advised the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee to accelerate and utilize various funding sources to strive towards achieving the goal of reducing the overall poverty rate by 3% and the poverty rate among ethnic minority households by 5%.

Specifically, the results of the review of the poverty and near-poverty rates at the end of 2021 showed that the entire province accounted for 11.19%. Of this, households of indigenous ethnic minorities accounted for 32.81% of the poverty rate, while households of ethnic minorities accounted for 27.98%.

By the end of 2022, the overall poverty rate in the province was 7.97% (a decrease of 3.22%). Of this, the poverty rate among indigenous ethnic minorities was 24.56% (a decrease of 8.25%), and the poverty rate among ethnic minorities was 20.11% (a decrease of 7.87%).

According to the results of the poverty survey and review at the end of 2023, Dak Nong province still has 8,838 poor households, accounting for 5.18%. In 2024, the province aims to further reduce the number of poor households by over 3,415, representing 3.15%.

Dak Nong province aims to reduce the poverty rate by 2% or more by the end of 2024, equivalent to a reduction of over 3,415 households. Of these, the total number of poor households in the province by the end of 2024 will be 5,423, representing 3.15%.

In addition, Dak Nong province also aims to provide support and facilitate access to loans for production development, vocational training, and stable employment to increase income for 100% of poor and near-poor households lacking sufficient income.

100% of poor and near-poor households lacking basic social services will receive partial support to gradually improve their access to services related to employment, healthcare, education , housing, clean water and sanitation, and information.
