Anthropic is valued at $965 billion, surpassing OpenAI.

(CLO) Anthropic announced on May 28th that it had raised $65 billion in its Series H funding round, bringing its post-investment valuation to $965 billion. This move allows Anthropic to surpass its competitor OpenAI, which was valued at $852 billion in March.

The new investment will help Anthropic expand its computing power to meet the growing demand for the Claude chatbot, while also scaling up its AI products.

The new valuation reflects Anthropic's rapid growth in the increasingly fierce competition in the generative AI market. In just three months, the company's value has more than doubled, from $380 billion in February to nearly $1 trillion today.

Anthropic's Claude Code is directly threatening OpenAI's position.

On its official blog, Anthropic stated: “Since our Series G funding round in February, usage from global enterprise customers has continued to grow strongly, and our annualized revenue surpassed $47 billion earlier this month.”

Sources close to Anthropic, including investors and banks, indicate the company is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO).

Besides Anthropic, OpenAI is also reportedly considering a public offering this year to raise additional financial resources for upgrading its computing infrastructure and training next-generation AI models.

Recently, Anthropic has struggled to meet the growing demand. The company has had to implement usage limits during peak hours and encourage customers to switch to off-peak hours by providing additional processing capacity.

Anthropic's latest funding round is led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, with participation from Coatue and ICONIQ.

In addition, strategic infrastructure partners including Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix also participated in the investment. Of the total $65 billion raised, $15 billion came from prior investment commitments, including $5 billion from Amazon.

The partnership between Anthropic and Amazon is becoming increasingly strong. Amazon has stated its plans to invest a total of up to $25 billion in the AI ​​startup. In return, Anthropic has committed to spending over $100 billion over the next 10 years to utilize Amazon's cloud computing technologies.
