Each of us has a responsibility to preserve and spread love for the traditional ao dai, which in turn contributes to the preservation and promotion of the cultural values of the Vietnamese nation.

Designer SI HOANG

Psychologist Dr. Ly Thi Mai and designer Si Hoang are the hosts. Having just returned from a Vietnamese ao dai fashion show in Australia, Mr. Si Hoang recounted that even an Australian politician commissioned him to design an ao dai because they wanted to wear it when visiting Vietnam.

Designer Si Hoang said that the traditional Vietnamese dress, with its long-standing cultural value and connection to the country's history, needs to be promoted to foster a love for the ao dai within the community, especially among the younger generation. Because it is such a sentimental garment, he is meticulous in every design.

For him, wearing the ao dai is also a civic responsibility because it demonstrates national sovereignty over clothing and honors the beauty of Vietnamese national culture.

As a teacher and speaker, Ms. Ly Thi Mai says she always chooses to wear the traditional ao dai dress. When traveling abroad for work, Ms. Mai says she clearly sees the immense importance of cultural elements in clothing.

"The culture of wearing the ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) today needs to be spread. Some people ask if I'm worried about the modernization of the ao dai, but I think we have appropriate modernizations, with increasingly diverse designs and rich materials that make everyone look beautiful and proud of their traditional attire," Ms. Mai shared.

Both speakers agreed that every Vietnamese person can be an ambassador for the ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress). According to Ms. Mai, each young person will contribute to spreading the love of the ao dai to the community. Mr. Si Hoang hoped that young people would learn more about the ao dai to further appreciate this traditional garment.

Sharing at the exchange event, teacher Doan Thi Liep recounted how she always used her traditional ao dai dress to paint themes related to literary works when she was still teaching. This made her lessons more lively and instilled a love for the ao dai in her students. For many years, this retired teacher has persistently encouraged many people to donate ao dai dresses to students in remote areas.

And the ao dai is not only familiar to women; men also choose to wear it at many events, going out on the streets during festivals, weddings, and other celebrations. Each of these small actions silently carries the traditional Vietnamese ao dai far and wide with all its pride.
