This was also the focus of the press conference announcing the international seminar "APEC 2027 - Elevating the Cultural and Tourism Development of Phu Quoc," organized by Dai Doan Ket Newspaper in coordination with the People's Committee of An Giang province on May 27th in Hanoi . The seminar is scheduled to take place on June 26th in Phu Quoc, aiming to propose long-term development solutions for the Pearl Island ahead of the APEC 2027 High-Level Week.

Speaking at the event, journalist Truong Thanh Trung, Editor-in-Chief of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, remarked that Phu Quoc's selection to host many important APEC 2027 activities is opening up a "golden opportunity" for the locality to accelerate development and elevate its position on the international tourism map.
According to the organizers, APEC 2027 is not only a major diplomatic event but also a test of Phu Quoc's capacity to develop as an international destination. Preparations for APEC are creating momentum to boost a range of sectors, from airport infrastructure, transportation, convention centers, and digital infrastructure to the quality of tourism services and the ability to accommodate high-end tourists.

In recent years, Phu Quoc has witnessed rapid development of its resort, entertainment, and tourism real estate sectors, with the participation of many large corporations. However, along with this growth rate, the pressure on the environment, urban infrastructure, and marine resources has also increased significantly.
The organizers believe that if Phu Quoc only focuses on increasing tourist numbers and expanding investment, it risks facing the problem of overcrowding, similar to many coastal tourist cities in the region. Therefore, the preparation period for APEC 2027 is seen as an opportunity for the Pearl Island to reposition its development model towards high quality, balancing economic development , environmental protection, and cultural identity.
This is also why this workshop focuses on topics directly related to the future of Phu Quoc's tourism industry, such as MICE tourism, night-time economy, green urban development, green transportation, clean energy, marine resource management, and the preservation of indigenous culture.
According to experts, in international tourism competition, modern infrastructure is only a necessary condition. The decisive factors in a destination's long-term attractiveness lie in the experience, environment, and unique identity. For Phu Quoc, the biggest pressure after APEC is not successfully hosting the event, but maintaining its position as an international destination after the conference ends.

The workshop is expected to bring together economic experts, managers, scientists, businesses, and domestic and international investors. Presentations will focus on analyzing experiences in developing tourist islands, smart coastal cities, visa exemption models, the night-time economy, and improving service quality from various countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Beyond tourism, the forum also expanded to include topics such as the marine economy, building national destination brands, training high-quality human resources, and enhancing Vietnam's tourism competitiveness in the new era.
According to the Organizing Committee, efforts to connect experts, businesses, international partners, and prepare content are being implemented in a thorough manner to create a ripple effect ahead of APEC 2027.
Leading up to the event, Dai Doan Ket Newspaper also plans to publish several articles on green tourism, marine economy, smart cities, and experiences in developing international coastal tourism centers; thereby clarifying the opportunities and challenges of Phu Quoc in the process of preparing for APEC 2027.
