According to Bernama, at the 32nd APEC Ministerial Meeting on Trade (MRT) held in Jiangsu Province, China from May 22-23, 2026, APEC ministers emphasized strengthening cooperation to share experiences, build capacity, connect businesses, and promote technical cooperation among members.

Furthermore, APEC supports efforts to improve the business and investment environment for businesses and people in the region. APEC, as the leading forum for regional economic cooperation, emphasizes the importance of collective efforts to address economic challenges and create a more resilient and prosperous region.

Amidst tensions in the Middle East, APEC emphasized the importance of maintaining sustainable supply chains, particularly for essential goods such as energy and agricultural fertilizers.

APEC Trade Ministers affirmed: “We recognize that maintaining connectivity between regions and keeping trade corridors open is in our common interest, facilitating the flow of trade, including energy supplies and other essential goods,” according to Bernama.

Therefore, APEC trade leaders committed to promoting concrete actions to enhance food security and improve the resilience of agro-food systems across the region, including through practical cooperation and by recognizing existing APEC frameworks.

Regarding the digital economy, trade ministers expect to continue implementing APEC's internet and digital economy roadmap in addressing emerging opportunities and challenges in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Through this, APEC will continue to cooperate, facilitate cross-border data flows, and enhance business and consumer confidence in digital transactions, while ensuring data protection and privacy.

In addition, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to promoting paperless trade in the region by encouraging cross-border recognition of e-commerce-related documents, including electronic bills of lading and invoices, and capacity-building efforts.

Simultaneously, APEC promotes accessibility and reliability to realize the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) for all. This includes the application of AI in international trade and the development of a regional information and communication technology ecosystem, focusing on information exchange, cooperation, and capacity building.

In fact, APEC comprises 21 member economies including Japan, South Korea, the United States, China, Australia, and Vietnam, home to approximately 3 billion people, accounting for nearly 60% of global GDP and serving as a driving force for world economic growth. Therefore, all APEC policies focused on regional development and prosperity will significantly contribute to global growth.
