Arsenal reach agreement to sign Declan Rice

The Gunners are said to have received a nod from West Ham after making a $133 million offer for the England international.

Arsenal have made three attempts to sign Rice this summer. Their second bid was for $95 million plus $19 million in add-ons, but was rejected. The Gunners' third bid is likely to be successful, with a $126 million upfront offer and $6 million in performance-related bonuses.

Rice chose Arsenal as the next destination in his career.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal offered to pay the amount in installments over four years while West Ham wanted to be paid over two years. However, this is considered a minor issue, unlikely to cause the deal to collapse and the two clubs are taking time to negotiate other terms.

If the deal is successful, Rice will become the most expensive English player in history, breaking the record of $127 million Man City spent to buy Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021.

Man City also jumped into the race to sign Rice. They sent West Ham a 101 million transfer fee plus 13 million in add-ons, but were rejected. The Etihad team then withdrew from the race.

Man City's decision to abandon their pursuit of Rice may have been the most important reason West Ham agreed to sell Rice to Arsenal. The Emirates club had no trouble negotiating personal terms with Rice, with the 24-year-old midfielder agreeing a salary of $316,000 a week. Rice also preferred a move to Arsenal despite interest from Man City, partly because he was impressed by the enthusiasm of coach Mikel Arteta.

Since making his West Ham first-team debut in 2017, Rice has become a mainstay of the team, making 245 appearances and scoring 15 goals. He was named captain and led the club to the Europa Conference League title last season.
