Pumpkin and mung bean sweet soup, bitter melon soup, and porridge made with cooling ingredients are three dishes that effectively help improve mouth ulcers.
According to Dr. Huynh Tan Vu, from the Day Treatment Unit at the University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City - Branch 3, canker sores are small, shallow ulcers that appear on the lips, inside the cheeks, and gums, causing pain and discomfort. This makes eating and daily activities difficult.
Mouth ulcers are a benign condition that can heal on its own after about 1-2 weeks without leaving scars. According to folk beliefs, mouth ulcers are caused by internal heat, eating too many hot foods, or the body's reaction to hot weather.
People with mouth ulcers can consume the following cooling foods:
Bitter gourd soup
Bitter melon soup is a familiar dish, relatively easy to cook, and packed with nutrients, helping to cool the body and detoxify effectively during hot weather.
Bitter melon not only helps to cool the body and provide fiber, but also helps to beautify the skin, reduce blood fat, lower blood pressure, and lower blood sugar.
Note that the cook should avoid adding too much salt, as this can cause painful and uncomfortable mouth ulcers. Eating too much bitter melon can cause bloating, indigestion, and diarrhea. It should not be used in cases of hypoglycemia because bitter melon has hypoglycemic properties. Pregnant women should not consume it.

Pumpkin and mung bean sweet soup
Prepare 150g of pumpkin, 100g of mung beans, and a sufficient amount of white sugar. Peel and cut the pumpkin into large pieces. Wash the mung beans and add them to the pot with the pumpkin. Cook until tender, then add sugar, serve in a bowl, and eat cold.
Pumpkin and mung bean soup has the effect of clearing heat from the liver and spleen, nourishing yin, cooling the blood, and fighting inflammation. Pumpkin contains a high amount of nutrients (iron, potassium, phosphorus, vitamins C, vitamin B, beta-carotene), which are very good for the brain, boost immunity, help keep the heart healthy, improve eyesight, promote better sleep, and support skin care... Mung bean seeds and hulls have a sweet taste and cooling properties, clearing heat, detoxifying, regulating the five internal organs, and nourishing the body due to their richness in vitamins and minerals.
Note that when taking traditional Chinese medicine, you should avoid eating mung beans because these beans will neutralize all the herbs in the medicine.
Snakehead fish porridge with mung beans
Mouth ulcers cause pain, discomfort, and loss of appetite, but sufferers need to ensure they are getting enough essential nutrients. Porridge made from ingredients that have cooling and nourishing effects, such as snakehead fish and mung beans, is a great choice for those suffering from mouth ulcers because it is cool, gentle, and nourishing.
Depending on the severity of mouth ulcers and individual constitution, the effectiveness of these foods will vary. If you have more severe mouth ulcers, causing significant pain or recurring frequently, you should seek medical attention for timely examination and treatment.
