Over the past few days, many provinces and cities in the Northern region have experienced continuous thunderstorms, with some areas recording quite heavy rainfall.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, a period of heavy rainfall is expected over a wide area in the Northern and North Central regions of Vietnam.

Specifically, from tonight, May 19th, due to the influence of a convergence zone of winds from 1500m to 5000m combined with the activity of the southeast wind pushing moisture from the sea inland, moderate to heavy rain will occur over a wide area in the Northern region and the two provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An .

Heavy rain is forecast to continue from the night of May 19th until the end of May 21st, with total rainfall generally ranging from 60 to 120 mm, and in some localized areas, very heavy rain exceeding 250 mm.

Heavy rains are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas and industrial urban areas. Particularly in the past few days, the mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam have experienced continuous thunderstorms, causing the soil and rocks to become saturated and loose. Therefore, if more heavy rains occur, the risk of flash floods and landslides in these areas is very high, so people need to be extremely vigilant.

The area from Ha Tinh southward is forecast to experience localized thunderstorms today and for the next two days, with some areas receiving over 80 mm of rain. The Central Highlands region, in particular, may experience very heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm. These thunderstorms are accompanied by dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

Rain mainly occurs in the late afternoon and evening, while the daytime remains sunny and relatively hot, with daily maximum temperatures generally ranging from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius. Some areas may experience localized heatwaves with daily maximum temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.
