A 61-year-old male patient with kidney stones went to Lam Dong General Hospital for an X-ray. The doctor mistakenly used the results of another patient's X-ray and proceeded with surgery to "remove a foreign object from his abdomen."
On February 21st, representatives from Lam Dong General Hospital confirmed that the endoscopic surgery team had made a mistake by operating on the wrong patient, Nguyen Hong Hai, residing in Lam Ha district.
Mr. Hai has a history of kidney stones for over 10 years, having undergone surgery and lithotripsy twice. Recently, he experienced recurring pain. On the morning of February 20th, his wife took him to the hospital, where he was scheduled for an X-ray. By noon that same day, the doctor informed Mr. Hai that he had a foreign object, a plastic tube approximately 30 cm long, in his abdomen, requiring endoscopic surgery to remove it.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huu, Mr. Hai's wife, said that 10 days ago her husband had an X-ray at the district medical center, and there were no foreign objects in his abdomen. "Although we had some concerns, the family agreed because the doctor recommended urgent surgery," the patient's wife said.
During the 30-minute surgery, the medical team could not find the plastic tube in patient Hai's abdomen. Afterward, the team announced that there had been a mix-up between Mr. Hai's X-ray and that of another patient, and offered their apologies.
Representatives from Lam Dong Provincial General Hospital stated that they are investigating the errors made by those involved in the surgery. The hospital will reimburse the medical fees, monitor Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai's health, and visit his home to apologize.
The patient who had a foreign object in their abdomen also underwent surgery following the mix-up.
