- Identifying the application of electronic medical records as a key task in the digital transformation of the healthcare sector, from the beginning of 2025 up to now, the Bac Son Regional Medical Center has organized the implementation of electronic medical records in a systematic and synchronous manner, determined to complete on schedule, ensuring the set quality.
To implement electronic medical records, Bac Son Regional Medical Center has proactively developed an implementation plan, issued directive documents, and specified appropriate solutions. The Party Committee of the center included the task of implementing electronic medical records in the resolution and directed the subordinate Party cells to develop specialized resolutions for implementation.
At the same time, the unit launched a special 40-day emulation movement (from July 20 to August 30) with the goal of completing the comprehensive operation of electronic medical records. Immediately after the launch, the unit officially deployed electronic medical records in 19/19 departments and rooms and conducted a trial run on the software from August 1.
Doctor Dang Minh Kim, Director of Bac Son Regional Medical Center, said: We have been giving strong instructions since the beginning of the year, and from the end of July until now, it has been a sprint phase. Medical record forms have been updated according to regulations, and the software has been tested. The unit has organized 2 training courses for 178 medical staff on the use of electronic medical records.
After 10 days of trial operation of electronic medical records software in all departments and rooms, the initial progress of updating forms has been positive with 90% of medical records forms according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health having been integrated and officially put into use. Data entry, storage and digital signature work are carried out in accordance with the process, gradually replacing paper records completely.
Dr. Duong Thi Phuong Thanh, Deputy Head of Pediatrics Department, Bac Son Regional Medical Center, said: The implementation of electronic medical records brings many benefits. The management of patient information is centralized and synchronized from the reception, examination, prescription, treatment, payment stages, significantly reducing the time for data entry, printing and archiving records. In particular, when the patient returns for a check-up, the doctor can quickly look up the entire previous treatment process, contributing to improving the quality of diagnosis and shortening the waiting time.
For patients, electronic medical records help simplify medical examination and treatment procedures, eliminating the need to carry a lot of paperwork, and eliminating the situation of forgetting or losing medical records. Digitizing the process from reception to treatment has helped reduce waiting time for examination by about 10 to 15 minutes/time compared to before. Medical examination data is stored securely and easily linked to other medical facilities, convenient in case of hospital transfer or long-term treatment.
Ms. Duong Thi Van, Tran Phu area, Bac Son commune shared: Seeing that one eye of my child was swollen, I took him to the health center for examination and medicine. Before, every time I went to the clinic, I had to call my child's parents to ask, and search for old documents and medical records. Now, I only need to bring my ID card and the doctor will have all my child's information. Examination is much faster and more convenient.
However, the implementation of electronic medical records at the unit is also facing some difficulties due to lack of equipment and information technology infrastructure. To achieve the goal of completing the implementation of synchronous electronic medical records at the unit by September 30, 2025, Bac Son Regional Medical Center continues to propose the Department of Health to invest in additional computers, network systems, and storage devices; closely coordinate with VNPT to edit and perfect the software according to practical feedback, determined to realize the goal of "comprehensive digitalization of medical records", improving the quality of health care for the people.
