The River Inspection and Surveillance Station is responsible for border control of ships and boats from buoy 0 and rivers entering and leaving the Ho Chi Minh City port system. This place is always bustling with trading activities, transporting goods, fishing... but there are also many potential criminals who take advantage of the complex river terrain to smuggle, illegally exploit sand, transport and use drugs, and violate border security regulations. Many subjects are still reckless, ready to fight back against the authorities.
Carrying out tasks in a special area, every day, Mr. Hung patrols the river, facing many dangers. Having a firm grasp of the area and methods of operation of various types of criminals, he always shows intelligence and courage, contributing to maintaining sovereignty and security of the seaport, ensuring safety for hundreds of ships entering and leaving every day. From 2020 to now, he and his teammates have detected and handled 83 cases with nearly 100 violators related to illegal sand mining, drugs, border security, etc.
Typically, during a night of heavy rain in the Go Gia River area (Can Gio District), Mr. Hung and his working group discovered and arrested two barges LA-07576 and LA-08154 transporting more than 1,000m³ of salt-contaminated sand of unknown origin. Previously, at buoy BP02 also on the Go Gia River, he closely coordinated with the forces to promptly prevent 5 subjects from using weapons to fight and disrupt public order.
With many outstanding achievements, in 2010, he was awarded the title of Emulation Fighter of the whole army by the Minister of National Defense . From 2011 to present, he has achieved the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level for many consecutive years. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard's Traditional Day (May 7, 1975 / May 7, 2025), Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hung was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in border work.
