| Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hung, a professional military officer, received a commendation from the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in May 2025. |
The River Inspection and Monitoring Station is responsible for border control of ships and boats entering and leaving the Ho Chi Minh City port system from buoy number 0 and the rivers. This area is always bustling with trade, goods transportation, and fishing activities, but it also harbors many types of crimes that exploit the complex riverine terrain for smuggling, illegal sand mining, drug trafficking and use, and violations of border security regulations. Many perpetrators are also aggressive and ready to resist law enforcement.
Operating in a unique area, Hung patrols the river daily, facing numerous dangers. With a thorough understanding of the terrain and the methods of various criminals, he consistently demonstrates resourcefulness and courage, contributing to maintaining sovereignty and security at the port, ensuring the safety of hundreds of ships entering and leaving daily. From 2020 to the present, he and his colleagues have detected and handled 83 cases involving nearly 100 violators related to illegal sand mining, drug trafficking, and border security.
For example, during a heavy rainstorm in the Go Gia River area (Can Gio District), Hung and his team discovered and apprehended two barges, LA-07576 and LA-08154, transporting over 1,000 cubic meters of saline-contaminated sand of unknown origin. Prior to that, at buoy BP02, also on the Go Gia River, he worked closely with other forces to promptly prevent five individuals from engaging in a fight with weapons, causing public disorder.
With many outstanding achievements, in 2010, he was awarded the title of Emulation Soldier of the entire army by the Minister of National Defense . From 2011 to the present, he has consistently achieved the title of Emulation Soldier at the grassroots level. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard (May 7, 1975 / May 7, 2025), Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hung was honored to receive a commendation from the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City for his outstanding achievements in border guard work.
