Cinnamon is a key crop with high economic value, and the planting area has been rapidly expanded by people in Bao Thang and Bac Ha districts in recent years.
Due to the characteristics of tall, straight stems, growing well on steep hillsides, along streams, many areas of cinnamon trees have approached, even extended into the safety corridor of the power grid. Just a sudden storm, trees falling on power lines can cause serious incidents: widespread power outages, equipment explosions, even threatening people's lives.

Tall trees at risk of falling have been posted with warning signs and phone numbers by the electricity industry. |
Fully aware of this risk, over the years, Bao Thang Power has persistently implemented synchronous measures to protect the power grid corridor. The unit regularly conducts field inspections and widely disseminates to the people about not planting new tall trees under the corridor or close to medium-high voltage lines.
At high-risk locations, the electricity industry proactively puts up warning signs, clearly stating the phone number for technical support, helping people to promptly coordinate when it is necessary to exploit or handle tall trees.
During the holiday, although the shift schedule and off-duty schedule were arranged according to regulations, when receiving requests for support from the people, the Operation Management Team workers immediately came up with a plan, went to the scene to provide technical guidance on tying and pruning tall trees outside the corridor that could fall onto the power line. The entire process was strictly monitored, complying with electrical safety regulations.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung, Deputy Head of the Operation Management Team, who directly commanded the scene, said: “Ensuring the safety of the power grid corridor is very important, and we always try to avoid any incidents. Therefore, every call from the people is handled urgently, regardless of holidays or weekends.”
Thanks to the responsible and proactive participation of the electricity industry, along with increasingly good coordination from the people, up to now, in areas with cinnamon forests close to power lines, there have been no incidents related to violations of the power grid safety corridor.
One of the key factors that helps the corridor protection work achieve high results is close communication and propaganda activities at the grassroots level. Through village meetings, social networks, and documents distributed directly to households, Bao Thang Electricity staff have helped people understand the risks when planting or harvesting trees near power lines, thereby forming the habit of proactively informing and coordinating with the electricity industry during harvest periods.
Through this, people are not only the beneficiaries but also partners with the electricity industry in protecting the power grid corridor, protecting the safety of the community, and maintaining the light of electricity throughout the highlands of Lao Cai .
