According to the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hai Phong City, by July 20, the city had planted about 58,000 hectares of winter-spring rice (71% of the plan), of which the western region had planted about 48,000 hectares (90% of the plan), and the eastern region had about 10,000 hectares (35% of the plan).

Hai Phong City has now planted 12,050 hectares of summer-autumn vegetables (78% of the plan), mainly corn, squash, eggplant, leafy vegetables, and spices.

Regarding fruit trees, the whole city has 2,490 hectares of longan trees ready for harvest, about 5,200 hectares of banana trees ready to bloom, 2,800 hectares of guava trees in bloom, 1,170 hectares of grapefruit trees and 535 hectares of dragon fruit in the young fruit stage.

If heavy rains exceed 100 mm, about 10,000 hectares of newly sown rice may be flooded and at risk of being affected. Many fruit tree areas are at risk of being damaged if the storm winds are at level 9-10 or higher.

On the morning of July 20, Comrade Luong Thi Kiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hai Phong City inspected the work of preventing storm No. 3 (storm WIPHA) and protecting production in two communes of Hop Tien and Truong Tan in the West of Hai Phong. He noted that the locality should coordinate with relevant units to pump and drain water from the main canals of the fields to the outer river, to prevent the storm circulation from causing heavy rains and flooding agricultural production areas. Propagate to people to temporarily stop sowing and planting summer-autumn vegetables. Arrange forces to support people in tying and reinforcing fish cages on the river.

For greenhouses and net houses, promptly harvest melons and vegetables when due, reinforce by tying them to limit heavy rain and strong winds from collapsing the greenhouse frame, causing production damage. After the storm has passed, promptly clean the fields and reorganize production, ensuring the planting season, especially for the winter-spring rice area.
