Farmers in Nam Sach commune ( Hai Phong city) are pumping water out of their rice fields into the irrigation canal system, which then flows into the river.

According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Hai Phong City, as of July 20th, the city had sown and planted approximately 58,000 hectares of summer rice (reaching 71% of the plan), of which the western area accounted for about 48,000 hectares (reaching 90% of the plan), and the eastern area about 10,000 hectares (reaching 35% of the plan).

Hai Phong City has currently planted 12,050 hectares of summer-autumn vegetable crops (reaching 78% of the plan), mainly corn, gourds, eggplants, leafy vegetables, and herbs.

Regarding fruit trees, the entire city has 2,490 hectares of longan trees preparing for harvest, approximately 5,200 hectares of banana trees preparing to flower, 2,800 hectares of guava trees in bloom, 1,170 hectares of pomelo trees, and 535 hectares of dragon fruit trees in the young fruit stage.

If rainfall exceeds 100 mm, approximately 10,000 hectares of newly sown rice fields could be flooded, posing a risk of damage. Many fruit-growing areas are also at risk of damage if wind speeds reach 9-10 or higher.

On the morning of July 20th, Ms. Luong Thi Kiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hai Phong City, inspected the work of preventing and mitigating the effects of Typhoon No. 3 (Typhoon WIPHA) and protecting agricultural production in Hop Tien and Truong Tan communes in the western Hai Phong area. She instructed the local authorities to coordinate with relevant units to pump out water from the main irrigation canals into the rivers, to prevent heavy rains from flooding agricultural production areas caused by the typhoon's aftermath. She also advised the people to temporarily stop sowing and planting summer-autumn vegetable crops. Furthermore, she called for the deployment of forces to assist people in securing and reinforcing fish cages in the river.

Farmers in Truong Tan commune (Hai Phong city) are reinforcing their greenhouses for growing cantaloupe in anticipation of potential damage from Typhoon No. 3.

For greenhouses and net houses, urgently harvest ripe melons and vegetables, and reinforce them by tying them down to prevent heavy rain and strong winds from collapsing the greenhouse frames and causing production damage. After the storm subsides, urgently clean the fields and resume production, ensuring timely planting, especially for rice crops.
