Protecting the "guiding light"

From a groundbreaking policy decision, the Party's reform process has become the path of development for Vietnam today.

At the 14th National Congress, the Party affirmed for the first time that the theory of the reform line is an important component of the Party's ideological foundation. This is not only a theoretical addition, but also the practical result of the entire 40-year process of national reform.

The theory of innovation is formed from practice.

Four decades ago, when the country was struggling with socio -economic crises, people's lives were impoverished, and the old management mechanisms revealed many shortcomings, our Party chose reform as a matter of survival. This was not an arbitrary change, nor was it a "change of color" as some distorted narratives deliberately try to impose. Reform began with looking directly at the truth, accepting the truth, and courageously changing the mindset for development.

It was during the process of leading the reform, from removing the barriers of the old mechanism to seeking a development model suitable to Vietnam's conditions, that our Party gradually formed, supplemented, and perfected the theory of the reform line. These are not understandings built on pure speculation, but are distilled from the vibrant practical experience of the country over the past 40 years.

From a poor and backward economy, Vietnam has risen to become one of the leading economies in Southeast Asia; the lives of its people have continuously improved; and its international standing and prestige have steadily increased.

The achievements of 40 years of reform not only affirm the correctness of the reform policy but also create a foundation for the country to enter a new stage of development with greater demands and aspirations. Currently, the implementation of a two-tiered local government model, the acceleration of digital transformation, the streamlining of the apparatus, and the enhancement of the effectiveness and efficiency of national governance show that the reform mindset continues to develop and be perfected to suit practical realities. The theory of the reform policy continues to affirm its guiding role, helping the country both inherit the achievements already made and proactively adapt to the demands of the times to steadily advance on the path of rapid and sustainable development.

Use development achievements to refute distorted narratives.

However, contrary to this truth, hostile and reactionary forces continue to distort and deny the value of the reform policy. A familiar tactic is to deliberately swap concepts, claiming that reform is synonymous with abandoning socialism. More dangerously, they try to separate reform from the Party's ideological foundation, thereby sowing doubt about the country's development path.

On social media today, it's not difficult to find arguments disguised as "suggestions" or "criticisms" that actually deny the Party's leadership role and the path to socialism in Vietnam. A noticeable characteristic is that they often exploit existing social problems to attribute the nature of the regime to others. A negative incident, a shortcoming in management, or a complex social phenomenon is immediately distorted into "evidence of the model's failure."

In reality, innovation in Vietnam has never been about changing the ideal goal. Innovation is about changing the way things are done to achieve goals more effectively. It is the flexible and creative application of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought to the Vietnamese reality, not a departure from that foundation.

The vitality of the reform policy is vividly demonstrated through the changes in the country and the people's belief in the future development of the nation.

Therefore, to strengthen the protection of the Party's ideological foundation, including the protection and development of the theory of the reform line, it is first necessary to continue to affirm the correctness of the reform line through practical experience. No argument is more convincing than the country's concrete achievements. A Vietnam with political stability, economic development, an increasingly improved standard of living for its people, and a continuously growing international standing is the most vivid evidence to refute all distorted arguments.

Along with that, there is a need for strong innovation in the work of disseminating and educating on political theory, making it more accessible, understandable, and suitable for the modern media environment. Furthermore, the summarization of practical experiences and the supplementation and development of theories on the reform line should be further promoted. This process of supplementation and development will make the theories on the reform line increasingly vibrant, continuing to serve as a "guiding light" for the country's development.
