Protecting forests during peak hot weather.

As the hot season approaches, the risk of forest fires increases due to prolonged dry weather, high temperatures, and agricultural activities near forest areas. In response to this situation, the Thanh Son Forest Ranger Station has proactively implemented a comprehensive set of solutions to improve the effectiveness of forest fire prevention and control, protecting forest resources and the ecological environment.

These days, officials from the Thanh Son Forest Protection Department, in coordination with local authorities and forest owners, are intensifying efforts to disseminate legal regulations on forest protection and development, and forest fire prevention and control to the people. The awareness campaigns focus on improving safe fire usage in agricultural production, discouraging the burning of undergrowth and the disposal of agricultural by-products near forest areas during prolonged periods of hot weather; and providing guidance on how to detect and handle forest fires initially.

Protecting forests during peak hot weather.

Local forest rangers from the Thanh Son Forest Ranger Station, in coordination with local residents, are intensifying patrols and inspections of areas at high risk of forest fires during the hot season.

In addition to public awareness campaigns, forest rangers are intensifying patrols and inspections in key areas with a high risk of forest fires; regularly monitoring weather developments and updating forest fire forecasts to promptly inform local authorities and the public. Forest fire prevention and control plans are also being reviewed and supplemented to suit the actual situation; personnel, equipment, and firefighting tools are fully prepared and ready to respond when a situation arises.

One of the highlights in forest protection efforts in the area is the Suoi Xanh stream area in Ha Son commune, Yen Son district, bordering Tan Hoa ward. From 2000 to the present, implementing the State's policy of contracting forest protection, the Dao ethnic community in Ha Son has effectively protected nearly 80 hectares of Suoi Xanh forest under contract.

Thanks to good management and protection, native tree species suited to the natural conditions have regenerated strongly, forming a mixed forest community with considerable reserves. Not only does this forest contribute to biodiversity conservation, but it also plays a crucial role in protecting water sources for daily use by over 100 households and providing irrigation water for more than 20 hectares of agricultural land in the locality.

It is noteworthy that the forest protection contracting policy has brought about positive changes in the awareness of the Dao community here. While previously forest resource exploitation was largely spontaneous, now the people view the forest as a valuable community asset, closely linked to their lives and long-term livelihoods. The people voluntarily participate in patrolling and protecting the forest, promptly detecting and preventing acts of forest resource damage.

The lush green forests of Suoi Xanh today are not only the "green lungs" that regulate the climate and protect water resources, but also a vivid testament to the effectiveness of the forest protection contracting policy, coupled with the promotion of the role of local communities. This is also one of the important factors contributing to reducing the risk of forest fires, because when people truly consider the forest as their property, their sense of responsibility in protecting the forest will be significantly enhanced.

Comrade Tran Quang Hung, Head of Thanh Son Forest Ranger Station, said: The unit is focusing on implementing comprehensive forest fire prevention and control measures according to the principle of "prevention is key," strengthening inspection and monitoring of high-risk fire areas; closely coordinating with local authorities, forest owners, and relevant forces in fire prevention and patrol work. At the same time, maintaining a 24/7 standby force during extreme heat to promptly handle any emerging situations.

Thanks to the proactive efforts of the forest rangers and the cooperation of the government and the people, forest fire prevention and control in the Thanh Son Forest Ranger Station area is being implemented effectively. This contributes to protecting the existing forest area, preserving the ecological environment and water resources, and creating a foundation for sustainable socio -economic development of the locality.
