Arrest of suspect who slashed 1 police officer and 2 civil defense guards

On the afternoon of May 28, the Criminal Police Department of Kien Giang Province issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and execute an order to temporarily detain Danh Duong (37 years old, residing in Thu Ba Town, An Bien District, Kien Giang) to investigate the act of murder.

According to initial information, on the morning of May 27, the working group of the Thu Ba Town Police carried out the clearance of the road corridor and handled cases of encroachment on the sidewalk according to the plan approved by superiors.

When arriving at the market area in Ward 2, TT.Thu Ba, the task force discovered Duong using a 3-wheeled vehicle to sell pineapples, parking the vehicle encroaching on the sidewalk, so they made a record and temporarily confiscated 1 scale, 1 meter, and 1 handheld speaker. However, Duong did not sign the record and ran home a while later.

Seeing the task force passing by, Duong used vulgar words to insult. When the task force stopped the vehicle, Duong immediately ran up and slashed Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Chief of Police of Thu Ba Town, in the head. Fortunately, Lieutenant Colonel Phong was sitting on a motorbike at the time and was wearing a helmet, so he was not injured in the head area.

Seeing that, Mr. Cao The Nhien, a civil defense guard and member of the working group, was sitting in the truck and got out to stop them. He was chased and slashed with a knife by Duong, causing injury.

Seeing Duong using a dangerous weapon to attack Mr. Nhien, Lieutenant Colonel Phong pulled out his gun to control him, but the gun jammed and did not fire. At this time, Duong turned around with a knife to slash Lieutenant Colonel Phong, but he used his hand to block the knife, causing it to drop.

After that, Duong ran into a resident's house, took two gold-handled knives and attacked Mr. Pham Hoai An, a security guard and member of the working group. After a struggle, Mr. An was able to control Duong but he was also slightly injured.

Due to serious injuries, Lieutenant Colonel Phong and Mr. Nhien were immediately taken to the Kien Giang Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment. Danh Duong was also transferred to the same hospital for treatment. Mr. An suffered minor injuries and was treated at the An Bien District Medical Center.

After serving the decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Duong, the Investigation Agency allowed Duong to stay in the hospital to treat his injuries; at the same time, arranged for guards to guard him until he was discharged from the hospital.

Also on the afternoon of May 28, Colonel Diep Van The, Deputy Director of Kien Giang Provincial Police, visited the hospital to visit, encourage and give gifts to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Phong and two injured civil guards.
