Strengthening solutions to prevent, combat and control African swine fever

According to the veterinary sector's report, the African swine fever epidemic situation is complicated and spreading rapidly in many provinces and cities across the country, with 1,719 outbreaks in 34/34 provinces and cities, with a total of over 590,700 sick pigs forced to be destroyed.

In An Giang , from July 27, 2025 to now, there have been 65 outbreaks of African swine fever, forcing the destruction of 879 pigs in 14 communes and wards; it is assessed that the risk of the disease continuing to arise and spread in the coming time is very high; in which, part of the reason is that the Party committees and authorities in some places have not closely followed up, have not promptly grasped, directed, and organized the implementation of disease prevention and control work.

In the face of the above situation, in order to urgently and resolutely prevent, combat and control the disease effectively, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the heads of relevant departments, branches and sectors; Chairmen of People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones to focus on directing and organizing the synchronous implementation of solutions to prevent and combat African swine fever in the province according to Official Dispatch No. 290/UBND-KT, dated July 30, 2025 of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment strengthens the inspection and monitoring of epidemics to detect early and promptly warn and direct the thorough handling of outbreaks. Review and accurately count the total pig herd and the number of pigs vaccinated against African swine fever; based on the recommendations of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine on circulating virus strains, evaluate the situation of vaccine use, and opinions of businesses, thereby advising and proposing to the Provincial People's Committee to allocate funds to purchase vaccines centrally in accordance with legal regulations and organize synchronous vaccination according to the direction of the Prime Minister, instructions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to use African swine fever vaccine for suitable pigs...

Preside over and coordinate with the People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones to review and synthesize funding needs for the prevention, control and containment of African swine fever if it occurs in the province, coordinate with the Department of Finance to advise the Provincial People's Committee on funding sources for implementation according to the provisions of the State Budget Law.

The Department of Industry and Trade directed the provincial market management force and relevant units to coordinate with the veterinary force and the police to strengthen control, detect, promptly prevent and strictly handle cases of trading and transporting pigs and pig products of unknown origin and origin, not yet quarantined in the market; and have proactive solutions to stabilize the supply and price of pork in the coming time.

Relevant departments, branches and sectors, according to their assigned functions and tasks, proactively direct specialized functional agencies to coordinate to resolutely and effectively implement measures to promptly and effectively prevent and control African swine fever.
