Arrested for installing cameras in motels, secretly filming sensitive scenes for blackmail

On the afternoon of July 4, the Investigation Police Agency of Can Loc District ( Ha Tinh ) announced that the unit had just initiated a case, prosecuted the accused, and detained Nguyen Khac Giang (born in 1987, residing in Nam Hong Ward, Hong Linh Town, Ha Tinh Province) for 3 months for the act of extortion.

According to the investigation agency, around September 2023, Nguyen Khac Giang went to a motel in Hong Linh town pretending to rent a room. Here, Giang installed hidden cameras to record sensitive scenes of guests.

After that, Giang used a fake Facebook account to contact and text the victim, threatening to post sensitive footage on social media or send it to relatives and friends for the purpose of blackmail.

After "fixing the price" with the victim, Giang went to pawn shops around the area, asked the victim to transfer money via QR codes, then took cash from the shop owner to avoid revealing personal information.

With the above trick, Giang appropriated 11 million VND from the victim. During the investigation, the police arrested the subject while he was hiding in Binh Hoa ward, Thuan An city, Binh Duong province.

At the investigation agency, Giang confessed to his crime. The case is under further investigation.
