On August 18, the Quang Tri Province Center for Disease Control confirmed that it had just received information about the death of a 6-year-old boy suspected of being caused by rabies. The Center is coordinating with relevant departments, units, and localities of Huong Hoa District to deploy measures to prevent and control rabies.
The victim was identified as a boy named H.D.P (6 years old, residing in Hamlet 5, Khe Sanh Town, Huong Hoa District).
About a month before, P. was bitten by a dog on his right cheek. Seeing that the wound was not serious, his family treated it themselves by washing the bite with clean water and applying chili leaves to the wound.

During this time, P. was treated at home without being taken to a medical facility, nor was he injected with anti-rabies serum or vaccine.
During the time from being bitten by the dog until the onset of the disease, P. still ate, drank, and lived normally, without showing any unusual symptoms.
On August 12, P. developed symptoms such as fever, fear of water, fear of wind... The next day, the symptoms worsened with manifestations such as: high fever, convulsions, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, delirium, fear of drinking water, fear of light... so the family took the child to the Huong Hoa District Medical Center for examination.
At this time, P. was assigned to be transferred to a higher level for treatment, but his family did not transfer him and instead took him home and treated him with oriental medicine.
It was not until August 14, when the family saw that the child had stopped breathing and turned purple, that they took the patient to the hospital. When arriving at the hospital, P. had stopped breathing and had stopped circulating.
It is not yet confirmed which dog bit the child. However, according to initial records, the area where P. lives has about 100 dogs, many of which have not been vaccinated against rabies.
