On December 18, doctors from the Ophthalmology Department ( Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital) said they had just received and treated a baby boy with a fishhook stuck in his eyelid.
Previously, on December 8, patient NTMĐ. (64 months old, residing in Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province) was admitted to the hospital with severe eye pain, accompanied by fear and confusion. According to the family, about an hour before being admitted to the hospital, patient Đ. went fishing and unfortunately got a hook stuck in his eye.
Through examination, the doctor determined that the child had corneal epithelial erosion and upper eyelid conjunctival laceration due to a fishhook hooked into the eye.
The boy had a fish hook stuck in his eye.
Doctors performed anesthesia to remove the foreign object from the child's eyelid and sutured the wound. After surgery, the patient's health was stable, his vision was not affected and he was discharged from the hospital.
MSc. Dr. Phan Dinh Toan - Head of the Ophthalmology Department, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital noted that after an eye-related accident, parents should quickly take their children to the nearest medical facility for timely first aid and appropriate subsequent treatment. Use medical gauze to cover the wound to limit infection, and absolutely do not remove foreign objects yourself.
In addition, because the hook is sharp and pointed, if it gets caught in body parts, especially the eyes, it often leaves serious consequences, long-term sequelae and can permanently damage the eyes.
