The first Gia Lai male student to win a gold medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics

(Dan Tri) - Le Kien Thanh, a student at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Gia Lai province, has brought glory to Vietnam by winning a gold medal at this year's International Olympiad in Informatics.

On August 2, Mr. Huynh Le Minh, Principal of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted ( Gia Lai ), confirmed that Le Kien Thanh, a student of the school, had won a gold medal at the 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Bolivia.

“This is the first time the school and Gia Lai province have had a contestant win a gold medal in this prestigious international arena. We are very proud of Le Kien Thanh. The school will organize a ceremony to honor and reward him when he returns home,” said the principal of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted.

On the same day, the official results of the 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics were announced on the Organizing Committee's website. The Vietnamese team achieved high results with 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. In particular, Le Kien Thanh was the one who contributed greatly with the prestigious Gold medal.

IOI is the most prestigious algorithmic programming competition for high school students worldwide . This year, IOI 2025 took place from July 27 to August 3 in Bolivia, with the participation of more than 90 countries and territories.

Candidates compete over two official days of competition, each lasting five hours. Each test consists of many highly difficult problems, requiring deep algorithmic thinking and excellent programming skills.

The Vietnamese team has 4 members participating. Of which, Le Kien Thanh (Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Gia Lai) is the only member of the Vietnamese team to win a gold medal.

Two silver medals went to Dang Huy Hau (Thang Long High School for the Gifted, Lam Dong) and Nguyen Bui Duc Dung (High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences , Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Ninh Quang Thang (Ha Long High School for the Gifted, Quang Ninh) won the bronze medal.

Previously, Le Kien Thanh had won a silver medal at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO).

With a series of impressive achievements, Le Kien Thanh has been awarded certificates of merit many times by the Minister of Education and Training and the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province (which has merged with Gia Lai province). The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union also awarded him the Creative Youth Badge.

Recently, Le Kien Thanh was one of five outstanding delegates from Binh Dinh province (old) selected to attend the 8th National Congress of Advanced Youth Following Uncle Ho's Teachings.
