Infectious diseases are on the rise again.

Leading experts in infectious diseases, oncology, and genetics exchanged views on the application and updating of diagnostic and treatment methods, including rare and life-threatening diseases such as cancer; provided recommendations and assessments on infectious disease outbreaks and emerging diseases; and shared solutions for preventing and controlling infectious diseases based on the latest research and assessments on the evolution of viruses and disease vectors; and vaccine development.

Infectious disease experts draw attention to emerging diseases and offer preventative recommendations.

At the conference, Professor Nguyen Van Kinh, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Medical Association, stated that regarding infectious diseases, some countries are seeing a resurgence of polio and measles cases; and there are alarming reports of monkeypox and cholera outbreaks. Cases of monkeypox have been recorded in the community, and this is an emerging disease that requires monitoring, early detection, and medical isolation to prevent its spread.

Dr. Kinh also noted the recent outbreak of diphtheria in some northern provinces such as Ha Giang and Dien Bien , with 4 deaths recorded. One of the reasons for the resurgence of diphtheria after a long period without any cases is the decrease in vaccination rates and disruptions in vaccine supply.

Infectious disease experts are warning international travelers about five infectious diseases in 2023: diphtheria in Guinea; dengue fever in Africa, the Americas, Asia, the western Pacific Islands, and the Middle East; fungal infections following surgical device placement in Mexico; measles; and chikungunya in Paraguay.
