The application of nuclear science and the expansion of advanced technology in specialized departments are helping the hospital affirm its position as a high-quality medical center in the Central Highlands region.
Applications of nuclear research in treatment
Over the years, Lam Dong General Hospital has focused on developing the field of nuclear medicine - one of the specialties requiring high professional qualifications and modern equipment.
With the attention of the Ministry of Health , the Provincial People's Committee, the Lam Dong Department of Health and the support from the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute, the hospital has made synchronous investments, opening up new directions in the diagnosis and treatment of many dangerous diseases.

The most prominent is the treatment with radioactive I-131 for patients with thyroid cancer and Basedow's disease. Along with that, the SPECT/CT system - single photon emission computed tomography technique was put into operation, helping to detect early malignant diseases, from tumors, bones and joints to cardiovascular and kidney. These techniques have fundamentally changed the diagnostic method, helping doctors to have detailed image data, giving more accurate treatment regimens.
As of September 2025, Lam Dong General Hospital has 38 specialized departments and wards. The hospital currently has 793 employees. Of these, 113 have postgraduate qualifications (1 Medical Doctor, 20 BSCKII, 8 MSc in Medicine, 62 BSCKI, 2 MSc in Pharmacy, 3 DSCKI and 17 other Masters), 384 have university qualifications.
From 2021 to present, the Department of Nuclear Medicine has been synchronously invested with I-131 concentration measuring machines, dose calibration machines, radiation dose division hoblab and high-dose I-131 isolation treatment area with 6 beds. Through technology transfer programs from Cho Ray Hospital, the team of doctors and medical staff has mastered many modern techniques: Thyroid scintigraphy, bone scintigraphy, kidney function scintigraphy, radiotherapy with accelerator combined with chemotherapy...

The effectiveness is clearly seen through the increasing number of patients. If in 2021, the department received 26,128 patients, in 2022 this number increased to 41,399, in 2023 it reached 51,859 and it is estimated that in 2025 it will continue to increase sharply. This is not only a testament to the growing trust of patients, but also affirms the maturity of the provincial medical team in mastering nuclear medicine techniques.
More importantly, the deployment of high technology right in Lam Dong has helped thousands of patients avoid having to be transferred to the Central level, reducing costs and treatment time and contributing to reducing the load on major hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City.
Application of science and technology in many specialized departments
Not only stopping at nuclear medicine, Lam Dong General Hospital also made its mark by implementing a series of advanced techniques in many other specialties, affirming its position as a Grade I general hospital in the region.

At the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison, the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technique has been successfully applied, helping to save the lives of many patients in critical condition. In parallel, continuous blood filtration, respiratory endoscopy, and bedside ultrasound techniques are important advances, helping to improve the ability to treat seriously ill patients without having to transfer to another hospital.
In the period of 2020 - 2025, Lam Dong General Hospital has 5 collectives awarded Certificates of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee; 12 collectives awarded the title of Excellent Labor; 53 collectives awarded the title of Advanced Labor. In 2025, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee awarded a Certificate of Merit to the Social Work Team (under the Nursing Department) with outstanding achievements in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, style and morality in the period of 2016 - 2025.
In the field of cardiovascular, the cardiovascular intervention unit has implemented IVUS intravascular ultrasound, allowing direct observation of the vascular wall, accurately determining the degree of stenosis and atherosclerotic plaque. The method of treating arrhythmias with high frequency waves has also been deployed, helping to completely treat many complicated cases.
In particular, cerebral vascular intervention techniques - which were previously only available at the central level - have now been successfully performed at the hospital, opening up the chance of life for many stroke patients.

In the Oncology Department, radiotherapy has become an important method in cancer treatment, bringing about remarkable results in destroying malignant cells and preventing tumor growth. Meanwhile, the Neurosurgery Department has successfully applied endoscopic surgery to remove lumbar disc nucleus and the Navigation positioning system, improving the accuracy in spinal and neurological surgery.
In particular, the Department of Nuclear Medicine continues to expand the application of SPECT/CT bone scintigraphy - a combination of CT and SPECT, allowing 3D image reconstruction, supporting early detection of bone lesions as well as many other complex diseases.

Each new technique deployed is the result of tireless efforts, close coordination between human resource training, equipment investment and technology transfer cooperation. Step by step, the hospital has turned what used to be only available at the central level into reality at the local level, bringing practical benefits to the people.
Towards a high-quality regional medical center
After 35 years of establishment and development, Lam Dong General Hospital has affirmed its role as a pillar of the provincial health sector. Especially in the period of innovation and integration, the application of modern science and technology not only helps improve the quality of treatment but also opens up a direction for sustainable development.

In the coming time, the hospital plans to continue investing in modern equipment such as PET/CT, new generation accelerator radiotherapy machines; promote training of high-quality human resources in key specialties; expand cooperation with central hospitals and research institutes to update advanced techniques. At the same time, focus on ensuring radiation safety and building an interconnected medical database.
This strong development shows the province's determination to improve the quality of health care for the people. With the right direction and sustainable investment strategy, Lam Dong General Hospital is gradually becoming a modern medical center of the Central Highlands region, where people can put their trust in high-quality medical services right in their hometown.
