On December 2nd, the Ben Thanh Traffic Police Team (Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department) issued a fine of 650,000 VND to a 22-year-old couple for the offenses of carrying a passenger without a helmet and driving a motorcycle with a standing passenger on the seat, according to Decree 100/2019.
Earlier, on the night of November 30th, these two individuals were riding a motorbike with two young men behind them, who were filming with their phones. One person, wearing a suit and without a helmet, sat facing backward while the other stood on the motorbike seat filming on Tran Hung Dao Street, District 1 (the section from Calmette Street to Le Loi Street). The entire group admitted to doing this to post the video on TikTok to gain views.
The practice of motorcyclists violating traffic laws to film videos for social media views has become increasingly common recently. In early November, three people aged 20-23 riding a motorcycle performing wheelies, letting go of the handlebars, and driving recklessly in the Thu Thiem urban area of Thu Duc City were detained by police for investigation. Prior to this, model Ngoc Trinh was also arrested for similar behavior.
Last year, a young man who performed a wheelie on the Ba Son bridge to film a video for views was also fined.
