Bustling border crossing

According to the socio -economic report for April 2026 by the People's Committee of Ha Tien Ward, the total import and export turnover for the month reached nearly 6.2 million USD; of which exports reached nearly 3.7 million USD, and imports approximately 2.5 million USD. This bustling atmosphere partly reflects the recovery of cross-border trade activities after a period of difficulties due to reduced purchasing power and market fluctuations. Ms. Tran Thi Hong, a small business owner selling consumer goods near the border gate, said: “For the past few months, the number of tourists has increased significantly, especially on weekends and holidays. Goods circulate smoothly, so business is more stable than before.”

The trade and service sector in Ha Tien continues to show many positive signs. Retail sales in April reached over 318 billion VND. During the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, April 30th, and May 1st holidays, the number of tourists visiting Ha Tien increased sharply. Tourist attractions, night markets, and coastal food areas were crowded every evening. The total number of tourists visiting tourist areas and attractions in the month reached over 279,000.

Mr. Le Van Dieu, Director of Mui Nai - Ha Tien Tourism Service Joint Stock Company, said that the number of tourists visiting Ha Tien during this year's holiday increased significantly compared to the same period last year. Visitors from neighboring provinces and international tourists crossing the border also saw a resurgence. "This is a positive sign for tourism businesses to continue investing in improving service quality and diversifying products," Mr. Dieu said.

Not only small businesses are benefiting, but many enterprises operating in the import-export, transportation, and logistics sectors are also seeing positive signs. The stable customs clearance of goods through the Ha Tien International Border Gate contributes to promoting the flow of goods between Vietnam and Cambodia. Mr. Lam Bo Pha, a porter in the Ha Tien border area, said: “In recent months, more goods have crossed the border than before, so we have regular work. Previously, there was little work and unstable income, but now, with trucks coming and going every day, our family's life is more stable.”

Making border trade a driving force for growth.

In recent years, Ha Tien ward has focused on investing in infrastructure in the border gate area, urban beautification, and upgrading the connecting transportation system to create favorable conditions for trade activities. In addition, tourist routes connecting Ha Tien with Phu Quoc, Rach Gia, and Cambodia have been expanded. Projects such as coastal resorts, international tourist ports, and tours exploring the archipelago have attracted the attention of many domestic and foreign investors. Relevant agencies have strengthened administrative reform, supporting businesses in carrying out import and export activities quickly and efficiently.

According to Pham Khac Phara, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tien Ward, border trade not only contributes to boosting trade growth but also creates jobs and increases income for people in the border area. For long-term development, Ha Tien Ward focuses on investing in improving transportation infrastructure connecting the border gate area. Notable projects include the upgrading of National Highway 80, the section from the N1 - Nguyen Phuc Chu intersection to the Phuong Thanh - Ha Tien International Border Gate route, with a total cost of nearly 80 billion VND; and the access road to the Ha Tien General Port project with a total investment of over 1,177 billion VND. These key projects are expected to enhance transportation and logistics capacity connecting the Ha Tien International Border Gate with the Tinh Bien and Khanh Binh border gates, gradually forming a development axis in the northern part of the province. This will create favorable conditions for attracting more investment resources, enhancing the capacity for importing and exporting goods, promoting sustainable development of border trade, and contributing to building Ha Tien into a dynamic, distinctive, and increasingly modern border city.

With its advantageous position as a gateway to trade in the Southwest region, Ha Tien is gradually asserting its role as an important commercial and tourism center in the border area. Mr. Pham Khac Phara stated: “In the coming time, the ward will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies to create favorable conditions for trade activities and develop border trade economy associated with tourism and services. At the same time, we will strengthen market management, ensure security and order, and build a civilized and safe business environment to contribute to improving people's lives and promoting socio-economic development.”

The flourishing border trade economy has brought a new look to the Ha Tien border region, opening up many development opportunities. Along today's border crossings, the vibrant pace of life reflects the belief in a dynamic, developing, and increasingly integrated border region.
