In recent years, the Party Committee and the Government of Long Xuyen City have implemented many practical activities to create favorable conditions for women to develop and contribute positively to the local socio-economic development. Since then, women have increasingly affirmed their role and position in the family and society. Many women have become good leaders and managers, making an important contribution to the development of the city.

Enhancing the status of women

According to Ms. Duong Thi Ngoc Dung, Chairwoman of the Long Xuyen City Women's Union, under the leadership of the City Party Committee, the City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department, and the City People's Committee, the Union, along with all levels and sectors, has effectively implemented work for the advancement of women and gender equality, yielding many encouraging results. The collective of female cadres from the city to the wards and communes has continuously strived, overcoming difficulties and obstacles to achieve and surpass many targets set in the Resolution of the City Party Congress (2020-2025 term) and the Resolution of the Long Xuyen City Women's Congress (2021-2026 term).

Cadres, civil servants, public employees, and female members from the city to the ward and commune levels actively study and train, effectively implementing the emulation movements "Women actively studying, working, and creating to build prosperous, progressive, happy, and civilized families." In particular, the movement "Building the Vietnamese woman of the new era," aimed at developing women with health, knowledge, morality, and responsibility towards themselves, their families, society, and the community, has motivated women to continuously study, train, be confident, self-respecting, kind, capable, intelligent, dynamic, and creative, excelling in their duties and deserving the attention and care of the Party committees, government, and people of the city.

Long Xuyen encourages businesses to create jobs for women, support women in starting businesses, and develop family economies. The city focuses on implementing policies to protect the rights of women, especially vulnerable women. It promotes women's participation in socio-political activities, contributing to enhancing the role and status of women in the community. The city pays special attention to women's reproductive health and creates conditions for girls to receive comprehensive education and development. "Through various activities and movements, many women continuously strive, study, and train themselves, becoming exemplary role models of skilled and creative workers, managers, teachers, and doctors..." - said Duong Thi Ngoc Dung, President of the Long Xuyen City Women's Union.

Creating conditions for women to contribute and develop.

“Over the years, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee has paid close attention to and effectively implemented the work related to female cadres, regularly reviewing, planning, and training them to meet the requirements of the new situation. The female cadre workforce has developed relatively quickly, and the percentage of female leaders has increased significantly. This is the clearest evidence of the progress of female cadres in the city,” said Vo Thien Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Long Xuyen City People's Council.

Currently, the Executive Committee of the Long Xuyen City Party Committee (2020-2025 term) has 8 female members out of 40 (20%), at the ward/commune level there are 77 female members out of 195 (39.48%); female delegates to the City People's Council are 9 out of 33 (27.27%); and 129 out of 310 ward/commune delegates are female (41.61%). The number of female leaders in city departments, agencies, and organizations is 44 (16 out of 40 Party agencies, departments, and organizations have key female leaders, reaching a rate of 40%), including 3 female members out of 12 members of the City Party Standing Committee (33%). At the grassroots level, there are 28 key female leaders in wards and communes; 4 out of 13 ward/commune units have female Party Secretaries and female Chairpersons of the People's Committee.

In the coming period, Party committees, government agencies, and departments in Long Xuyen City will thoroughly understand the viewpoints and objectives of the Party and State on women's work in the new situation; viewing women's work as the responsibility of the entire political system, the whole society, and each family. This will create a significant qualitative and effective transformation in women's work in general and the work of female cadres in particular. At the same time, attention will be paid to creating favorable conditions for women in training, fostering, and improving their skills, knowledge, expertise, and professional qualifications; and ensuring that work is assigned according to their expertise and strengths to maximize their abilities and talents. Greater emphasis will be placed on planning for female and young cadres, creating opportunities for women to participate in leadership and management roles within the Party, government, and mass organizations in the local political system.

With great effort and determination, Long Xuyen is gradually building a civilized and progressive society where women are respected, given opportunities for comprehensive development, and contribute to the prosperity of their homeland.
