In recent years, thanks to the province's specific policy on encouraging sustainable forestry development, Binh Lieu district has actively implemented it, focusing on scattered trees and native species with high economic value.

Binh Lieu Forestry Company Limited is one of the units managing the largest forest area in the district, with nearly 5,200 hectares. Implementing resolutions and plans for sustainable forestry development and specific policies to encourage sustainable forestry development, in 2021, the company developed a plan and quickly implemented the selection of suitable tree species, conducted seedling propagation, and prepared the planting sites. Starting with an initial area of approximately 77 hectares, the company carried out pilot planting of teak, mahogany, and other similar species. To date, the area has been expanded to approximately 1,100 hectares, with trees growing and developing well, suitable to the local climate and soil conditions.

The teak trees planted by Binh Lieu Forestry One-Member Limited Company are growing and developing well after more than 3 years.

Under the guidance of the Department of Science and Technology, in 2023, Binh Lieu Forestry Company Limited collaborated with the Institute for Regional Research and Development ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) to research and conduct trial planting of grafted Sophora japonica trees to replace traditional Sophora japonica trees. With an area of over 4 hectares, the company planted nearly 7,000 trees. Compared to traditional Sophora japonica trees grown from seeds or cuttings, grafted Sophora japonica trees have many advantages, including faster growth and development, a shorter fruiting time (from 10 years to about 5 years), and a 20-fold increase in yield, ranging from 50kg to 200kg per tree.

Alongside maintaining and stably exploiting the existing forest area, in 2025, Binh Lieu Forestry One-Member Limited Company plans to plant approximately 200 hectares of new forest, with about 300,000 trees, mainly acacia, pine, teak, mahogany, and rosewood. Currently, the company has planted about 25 hectares, and the remaining area is expected to be completed by April 2025.

Mr. Le The Doan, Deputy Director of Binh Lieu Forestry One-Member Limited Company, said: The unit is reviewing areas of large timber forests affected by the storm to replant and restore forest cover. Regarding the 2025 reforestation plan, the unit has ensured the supply of seedlings, continues to deploy personnel to clear undergrowth, dig holes, and prepare the site to achieve the set reforestation goals; and maintains and effectively implements the grafted Sophora japonica tree planting model with the goal of expanding the area by approximately 3-4 hectares each year.

The model grafted Sophora japonica trees of Binh Lieu Forestry Company Limited have started bearing fruit after a short period of planting.

To effectively achieve the goal of sustainable forestry development, through the conversion of small timber trees to large timber trees and native trees with high economic value, Binh Lieu district has implemented a reforestation plan for 2025 with the target of planting over 1,000 hectares, including 40 hectares of protective forest and the remainder as production forest. To date, the entire district has planted approximately over 150 hectares, reaching 14.6% of the plan. Regarding the implementation of Resolution No. 37/2024/NQ-HĐND, Binh Lieu district was assigned the target of planting approximately 200 hectares of large timber forest, and the district has directed communes, units, individuals, and organizations to plant 30 hectares.

Mr. La Ngoc Duong, Head of the Agriculture and Environment Department of Binh Lieu District, said: The District People's Committee has directed communes, towns, units, and organizations to plant forests, regularly propagate and mobilize people to actively participate in order to quickly restore areas damaged by typhoon No. 3 in 2024, stabilize production, contribute to greening barren land and hills, and increase the forest cover rate. It is expected that Binh Lieu District will complete the forest planting plan by around June 30, 2025. Regarding grafted Sophora trees, after evaluating their quality and economic efficiency compared to traditional trees, the district is actively encouraging people to plant them, increasing the existing area. Regarding the plan to plant large timber forests according to Resolution No. 37/2024/NQ-HĐND, people are registering to plant forests, and currently, communes have registered over 20 hectares. Alongside the plan to plant large timber forests and develop sustainable forestry that yields high economic efficiency through harvested forest products and processed forest products, Binh Lieu district continues to exploit its potential and promote experiential tourism associated with native tree species.
