The Department of Forestry and Forestry ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) has just held a conference to summarize the implementation of the project to plant 1 billion trees in the period of 2021 - 2025.
Exceeding the project target
According to the Department of Forestry and Forest Protection, implementing Decision No. 524/2021/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the project "Planting 1 billion trees in the period of 2021 - 2025" (project), over the past 5 years, ministries, localities, organizations and individuals in the whole society have actively organized and implemented it.
Many provinces, cities and ministries have had good practices and creative activities in organizing and implementing the project.
Socio-political organizations, businesses, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and the masses enthusiastically responded and joined hands to plant and protect trees.
Thanks to that, after 5 years of implementing the project, the whole country has planted over 1,439 billion trees, exceeding 43.9% of the project's goals and tasks.
Of which, 573 million scattered trees were planted and 865 million trees were planted in concentrated forests, equivalent to more than 429,125 hectares of forest.
According to reports from ministries, branches and localities, the total capital to implement the project in the 2021-2025 period is 15,291 billion VND, of which the capital mobilized from socialization is more than 7,011 billion VND. This is a very positive result, demonstrating the interest and response of the whole society to tree planting and afforestation.

Not many countries can implement large-scale programs and achieve outstanding results like Vietnam.
Mr. Hoang Xuan Huy, Director of External Relations of WWF in Vietnam, assessed that Vietnam's program of planting 1 billion trees is a very important contribution to global efforts to respond to climate change and restore nature.
This success contributes practically to the implementation of Vietnam's international commitments on environment and climate in recent years.
Mr. Huy also emphasized that in the world, not many countries can implement a large-scale tree planting program and achieve outstanding results like Vietnam.
"Throughout our journey with Vietnam, we have had the opportunity to witness mountainous localities overcoming difficulties to expand their protective forest areas, to coastal areas persistently planting new mangrove forests to prevent erosion. From schools and businesses planting trees around their campuses, to people voluntarily participating in local tree planting movements.
All of that helps us feel very clearly that this is no longer simply a program of the Government alone, but a movement with great consensus from all components and classes, both at home and abroad, to look towards the future and for the future," said Mr. Huy.
Mr. Trieu Van Luc, Deputy Director of the Department of Forestry and Forestry, assessed that the tree planting and forestation movement has become a traditional cultural beauty of our people, helping to maintain a stable forest cover rate of about 42%.
At the same time, it affirmed the increasingly important contribution of the forestry sector to the country's economic and social development and environmental protection, especially in the context of complex climate change, natural disasters and consecutive extreme weather events.
Mr. Luc also requested that localities, agencies and units continue to do a good job of propaganda, maintain and organize the tree planting movement following Uncle Ho's teachings.
Calling on organizations and individuals across the country to continue to join hands and contribute to planting trees, afforestation, and protecting forests and trees.
Especially planting large timber forests and high-value native trees, increasing the value of planted forests; promoting the effectiveness of ecological environment protection, forest carbon sequestration, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
